Life Is Like Coffee

Life is like coffee:

I do get their point, but I agree with Psychology Today when they explain why the cup does matter in some important ways:
The cup from which we drink matters, perhaps not as much as the coffee itself, but it can certainly add significantly to, or detract significantly from, our enjoyment of the coffee.
Granted, we shouldn't focus on the superficial aspects of an experience at the expense of the primary experience itself, but I don't see anything wrong in trying to enhance the coffee-drinking experience with a cup that suits you.

  1. Wow, I wonder what psychologists would make of that tacky, misshapen mug with a lid I use when I'm in my craft room. I can see both points, but I believe that the cup only matters if the drinker allows it to matter.

So glad you shared this with us today. It is certainly something to contemplate as we finish our cup or glass we are drinking from. Happy T, too.

    1. some cups actually interfere with the taste imo. take styrofoam, for example... no, wait! _don't_! lol

some cups have memories attached or a utility that suits me just fine, even tho no one else would ever choose them.

  3. I have to agree... tea tastes totally different to me if it is served in a mug instead of a cup (and preferably a saucer) and the thinner the cup, the better it tastes! LOL I have no idea why, but it is true!

    1. i mostly use mugs or thick-walled cups/saucers. i can see i need to pick up a thin china cup to test this. for research, you know. not just because i like more cups ;)

  6. The video was very interesting and the article in the link even more so. Although I haven't tested, I can't imagine coffee tasting much different in a variety of pottery/china cups, However I have an aversion to the feel of styrofoam and don't really like paper either. You can see I pretty much pass by take out coffee, LOL!.

    1. i've nown people who prefer certain shapes because they keep the coffee warm better. i've known people who can't use certain sizes/shapes of handles. i knew someone once who didn't like anything but white because they wanted to see the color of the coffee/tea. i think some people are just more affected by "incidentals" than others. they just aren't "incidental" to them.

i agree with you about paper & styrofoam. i think they have a taste of their own that interferes with the coffee/tea. i'll use them, though, if it's all that's on offer. i'm not _that_ discriminating lol

  7. wow...lovely video. like one of my favorite quotes..."the most important things in life are not things." but I did see some gorgeous mugs on sale the other day that were white with beautiful black swirlies on them. I really wanted them, but I didn't need them. and so I didn't buy them. really don't have room for more in my cupboard! thanks for a wonderful post!

    1. yes, i love that quote :) i can completely empathize with having no room for more cups. we recently had a cup break in the dishwasher, and my first thought was that now i had room for a new one lol
