Join the fun at the Mr. Linky that Bleubeard and Elizabeth have set up to share weekly T Stands for Tuesday posts.
Sometimes I just want 1 cup of coffee. The Melitta one-cup coffee brewer is perfect for that. It's listed as a "READY SET JOE POUR-OVER" at their site. You put a little cone filter inside, add enough coffee, place it on top of your cup and pour hot water over it. In no time at all you have the perfect cup of coffee. Of course, if you want another cup, it's just as easy as the first one. It's wonderful to have an option for coffee that tastes great but is just as easy as instant.
We gave this cup to The Grandmother long years ago, and she gave it back a couple of years ago when she started having all her meals provided by her building's dining room. On the bottom is printed, "Vandor Country Collection; Designer: Pelzman Designs". I think this is the first time I've ever used it.
Right now The Grandmother (she's my mother but always seemed to like being a grandmother better) is enjoying the hospitality of a local rehab facility as she recovers from a fall that caused several broken ribs and a couple of spinal fractures. Now that, my friends is painful! They are positive about her chances to return to her home after more therapy, which is a testament to her strength and determination. She may be in her mid-90s, but she's still a fighter!

We use the big 12 cup Mellita at home or else a French press. The one cup filter looks handy. Interesting that you think of your Mother as a Grandmother.
ReplyDeleteDarla
we have a french press and a 6-cup chemex. we like to play with our coffee lol
Deletemother took to grandmothering like a duck to water. she was born to it. we always spent time over there, and the kids loved it. watching her with them was a revelation.
Oh dear, I hope your Mum is out of pain and back on her feet again soon, that was a nasty fall if she did so much damage. Lovely mug... glad its not just my Mum that gives things back to me!! LOL
ReplyDeletethey are talking about changing her pain meds. she has severe osteoporosis so she'll never be pain-free, but she has a high pain tolerance and lots of grit and determination. it'll just take a while to get her back up to her usual self.
DeleteI can't possibly imagine anyone, no matter what age, taking that kind of fall and coming back from it. The broken ribs alone would put most people away. But the spinal fractures sent chills down my spine when I read it. I wish her the best of luck and I'm sure you're right there giving her encouragement along the way.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen that small pot before, although I once owned a larger Mellita. Still have a bunch of the filters, too. Once a hoarder . . . .(grin).
Happy T today and thanks for sharing this fun way to drink your coffee.
she's had 2 pelvic fractures in past years. this woman is strong! if anybody can do this, she can. the staff is very positive and says her determination makes a huge difference. some people give up, but she's not one to give up. :) i spend some time over there every day. the kids come with me when they can.
Deleteyou'll find a use for those filters. i use old paper filters in the bottoms of pots when i repot plants. they hold up amazingly well.
i have one of those Melitas around here somewhere. I should dig it out and use it. The monster Keurig took it's place. But the coffee isn't as good.
ReplyDeletei've seen the keurig machines in stores but have never had coffee from one. we did look into getting one when our old coffee maker died, but i remember the online reviews being less than stellar so we went the more traditional mister coffee route.
DeleteSending healing wishes for a speedy recovery to your Mother....
ReplyDeleteshe sounds frisky and determined and that will take her far!
We got rid of our coffee maker and now use a simple French Press...
I do like the Melitta filters for making a nice cup of coffee...
back in the day we had a cloth filter that we washed and used again and again ;)
Happy T day to you
oxo
thx for your good wishes. she is having a hard time.
Deletea cloth filter! now that would be perfect!
My goodness, your Mom comes from strong stock. Wishing her a full recovery! That one-cup maker is something my husband might enjoy although he actually prefers instant coffee.
ReplyDeletemy mother always liked the instant when she was making her own, but i can definitely tell the difference and i like this better.
Deletemother is stronger than she looks, but this is sooo wearing :(
Lord have mercy, as my mother would say. I am so glad to hear she is recovering and recuperating nicely. That is a lot for anyone to contend with let alone someone in their 90's!
ReplyDeleteThe cup that goes around and comes around. Glad you are making use of it. It's happy about that, I am sure.
Happy T today
~Dawn
lord have mercy, indeed! so far so good :) we're hoping she'll soon be back where she wants to be.
Deletemother gives back a lot of what i've given her and other things besides. they find a happy home with me ;) she has never been a hoarder and easily parts with "stuff" she no longer uses.
Oh my goodness...you are so lucky to have a strong mother! Best wishes for her quick recovery...enjoy your coffee and your Tuesday!
ReplyDeletethx! yes, she's always surprised people with how strong she is. that stubborn determination has brought her through a lot.
DeleteAs a sufferer with my back I can imagine some of the pain, but not had a fracture, I might have to have an operation though.
ReplyDeleteThe mug I showed today is great, the other is striped, and both have a lovely warm interior that cheers me up when I use them, I don't use them enough. If you want some they came from Whittards.
Your cup is cute with those chickens.
Cazzy x
i hope you recover quickly if you have to have back surgery. i'm not sure mother was a candidate for surgery. that would most likely be much to hard for her.
Deletethx for the tip. :) i'll definitely be on the lookout for whittards!
i like this cup, too. mother has always been fond of roosters.
Here's a wish for a speedy recovery for your mom. OUCH! That cup has a very unique shape with the rounded bottom.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday!
thx! it's lookin' good for mother so far, and they plan at this point for her to go back to her home after rehab. she's amazing!
Deletei like cups with unusual shapes :)
I don't like coffee but think these mini coffee pots are the cutest.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your mom, how awful for anyone. She must be a strong lady and quite the fighter!! Sending feel better wishes soon for her.
thx for the positive good wishes :) she is strong and a fighter! i hope i could do as well for myself as she has done.
Deletethe one-cup coffee makers are so handy -just the thing some mornings when i know i won't want more than 2 cups.
