A Christmas Carol (1954)

This adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic is an episode from the television variety series Shower of Stars. Much condensed and faithful in parts, this is only an hour long. Fredric March is Scrooge and Basil Rathbone is Marley's Ghost.

  1. I've not seen this version. Our family tradition is watching on Christmas Eve the 1951 B/W version of A Christmas Carol with Alister Sims as Scrooge. I don't think it would be Christmas without it. I'll this 1954 one a go ... this Jacob Marley looks quite serve

    1. I love the the Sims version! There are so many adaptations of this story, and I enjoy most of them. Sims is special, though :)

    1. Me, too! There've been a couple of animated versions that were less than stellar, but other than that yes, I love them all :)

  3. I've never seen this adaptation of A Christmas Carol. My favorite is probably with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge, but this one may be worth watching.

    1. Each adaptation has its strengths and weaknesses. I think we have to watch them all ;) to get a balanced take on the story

  5. Always a good story this time of year! I recently found a book titled 'A Guinea Pig Christmas Carol', with some hilarious photos of piggies in character.

  6. I've seen this one. They're so many. My favorite is the one with George C. Scott, actually. :)

    1. I don't have a favorite, but I do think Scott makes one of the very best, most believable Scrooges.
