3 Godfathers

3 Godfathers is a 1948 western movie. It's directed by John Ford and stars John Wayne. Ward Bond is the sheriff. Referring to the story of the three wise men in the Christian nativity story, John Wayne and his two companions take on the care of a fatherless baby whose mother dies in childbirth.

The New York Times concludes a positive review by saying, "There are humor and honest tear-jerking in this visually beautiful film." Rotten Tomatoes has a critics score of 82%.

  1. I thought I've seen most of Wayne's Westerns, but I don't recall this one. Started watching the opening credits. A cast of Ford favorites Mildred Natwick, Ben Johnson <3 I'll have to make time for this today

    1. It surprised me, too! I found it when I discovered that it was based on the same novel as Tokyo Godfathers.

    3. Maybe you'll have better luck than I've had lol I get a kick out of noticing some obscure bit of Christmas in a movie and declaring it a Christmas movie. He doesn't buy it ;)

  5. I remember seeing this as a kid. I am sure I missed out on a lot at that "tender age." It is not the usual Ford/Wayne fare. I'll make time for the whole thing soon.

  8. I usually do not care much for most of John Wayne's movies but I had forgotten all about this one. I remember watching this one Saturday afternoon as a kid and enjoying it. They often showed westerns on Saturday afternoons and I remember this one with the baby was different than most. ;)
