Kimi is a 2022 thriller film directed by Stephen Soderbergh. I'm not sure how I came across this one, but I'm so glad I did. One of my current irritations with movies is how long they are, with scenes that drag out and plots that progress sooo slowly. Not here. Taut and efficient with wonderfully realized characters and a thrilling plot, I'd watch this one again. I watched it on HBO Max.
trailer:
Roger Ebert's site gives it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars and calls it "a timely commentary on isolation and intrusion." NPR calls it "a pandemic-era thriller that's eerily keyed into our current moment". The Guardian praises it and says it "keeps things refreshingly simple and stringently devoid of any extraneous padding." Rotten Tomatoes has a critics consensus score of 92%.

You make my watch list longer and longer--lol! ;)
ReplyDelete*beams proudly* ;)
Delete...you seem to find EVERYTHING!
ReplyDeleteAnd yet there's always more. So Much More!
DeleteI haven't seen this one, but it is true that movies just keep getting longer. Pretty soon they'll all need intermissions like they did with Gone With the Wind. Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteBloat. That's what I call it. They tend to drag imo.
DeleteThis sounds good, I wold like to see it. Happy Friday, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it :)
DeleteMight be good for this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think :)
DeleteThis doesn't sound like my kind of movie but I admire one that is well made, no matter what the content.
ReplyDeleteThrillers don't tend to be my kind of movie, either, but sometimes...
DeleteI have to pass since I don't have HBO max. I DO prefer a tight plot, though. May be that's why I prefer tv shows. You HAVE to come to some conclusion in an hour.
ReplyDeleteSo many of the modern tv series carry a plot arc throughout the entire season. I prefer the ones where the plot is contained within a single episode, but they're getting harder to find. HBO max is $9.99 a month and is one of our favorite services. My watchlist there is longer than my watchlists on the other services.
DeleteYes, I have noticed there are arcs that continue for several to many episodes, while also dealing with another story line that week. I'm saving for BritBox and Acorn. Those are steaming services I think I'll get the most good out of. But first, I have to get rid of this $%$W& Cable!
DeleteWe tried both Acorn and Britbox and found them quite similar. We let Acorn go and kept Britbox. Cable was just tooooo expensive to keep. We let it go long ago. It was quite a while before we started trying streaming services.
DeleteI really like this kind of movie. I just went to HBO and it wasn't in the list. I will try and find it somewhere else. Have a great day today.
ReplyDeleteThere's a difference between HBO and HBO max. I don't see it on any services other than HBO max except as a rental... I hope you can find it.
DeleteOne of my favorite categories on Netflix is 90 minute movies
ReplyDeleteikr?! Too many are over 2 hours, and I'll watch movies that long but still...
DeleteThis does sound good ...
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I liked it :)
