DVD Talk opens with this:
Here Comes Mr. Jordan is one of those rare Hollywood classics that hasn't dated and never fails to raise one's spirits. It's one of the first and best of the Films Blanc, the splinter genre of light comedy-dramas that imagine the universe to be governed by a fanciful Hereafter. Screenwriters Sidney Buchman and Seton I. Miller put Robert Montgomery into a no man's land between heaven and earth, while sympathetic angels work to correct a cosmic error. Nominated for seven Oscars, the film won two, for Original Story and Screenplay.Slant Magazine describes it as a "Hollywood gem". Criterion calls it "A sophisticated supernatural Hollywood comedy whose influence continues to be felt". TCM has information. Rotten Tomatoes has a critics consensus score of 100%.
I'm not a fan of comedy OR romance, but for some reason, I can't quite describe, this sounds good to me!

ReplyDeleteThe tornadoes skipped us, so that's always a good start.
DeleteGlad to read you were missed by tornadoes. So awful. We anticipate freezing rain today. And winds!
ReplyDeleteIt's sunny here today with a predicted high in the 70s. I have the house open.
DeleteSounds very interesting. To discuss if you´re dead or not... huiiii...
ReplyDeleteThere are several ideas here that'd be worth discussion. Angels would be one.
DeleteI couldn't sleep (seems to be the normal recently) so I watched this and it was pretty good! I do like the old movies with the happy endings. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked it :) There's something satisfying about a happy ending.
DeleteI love this movie -- even more than the Heaven Can Make remake. It's a charmer.
ReplyDeleteSo many movies I've missed out on...
