Reginald on Christmas Presents

Reginald on Christmas Presents is a short story by Saki. You can read it online here. It begins,
I wish it to be distinctly understood (said Reginald) that I don't want a "George, Prince of Wales" Prayer-book as a Christmas present. The fact cannot be too widely known.

There ought (he continued) to be technical education classes on the science of present-giving. No one seems to have the faintest notion of what anyone else wants, and the prevalent ideas on the subject are not creditable to a civilised community.
Please join me in a seasonal beverage (I'm having orange coffee, recipe here):

  1. ...it can be difficult to choose the right present!

  2. The gift giving and worry about recipients being underwhelmed is what makes me a Grinch about Christmas. I love your happy, snowman mug. Did I hear you might see some snow Tuesday/Wednesday?

    1. They predicted some, yes, and that's a sure sign we won't get any ;) It's 9:00 AM now, and there've been reports of some sleet and some flurries nearby. I haven't seen any. And I have been watching lol

  4. Sounds like an interesting read with Reginald pronouncing in no uncertain terms what he does not want for Christmas ...lol 😉. Your happy Christmas mug is wonderful - I love it! Wishing you a happy T Tuesday! Hugs, Jo x

  5. Yes, it is very difficult to guess what people would like. Men in particular are difficult to buy for. It's good that young men nowadays have a 'beauty regime' of sorts. They also like toiletries.
That mug is gorgeous and I might have a go at making orange coffee. Although I don't quite know how to dry the orange peel. In the oven? Or do you buy it already dried? I might just use normal orange peel and strain the coffee so we don't get the 'bits' between our teeth...
    Have a lovely T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

    1. I bought dried orange peel in the spice aisle at the grocery. I didn't want to try making it. I've heard you can just put regular orange peel in with grounds, but I've never tried that.

  7. That orange coffee sounds delish-thanks for the recipe. I think a piece of dark chocolate with orange would go very well with it:) Sweet snowman mug. Happy T day!

  8. The orange coffee sounds lovely but I think I would prefer it without the orange as coffee isn't my drink of choice, however I really I love the snowman mug you used.
Presents can be difficult to buy for adults especially men, i opt for gift vouchers when I don't know what to buy.
    Happy T day wishes.

  9. Love the snowman mug. It is very festive. And we've had rain and temperatures in the low 50's so so much for the snow. It does make a snowman much more enjoyable when it isn't snowy outside. Hope it was a super T day. Hugs-Erika

  11. Just stopping by to let you know I’m back online. Both my internet AND my phone were down. I walked to my foodie friend Sally’s to use her phone to call the phone company and Sharon who graciously left the message.

I complained to the phone company that my internet often goes down on Mondays. I bet Sharon is getting tired of hearing from me on Monday afternoons. I asked the repair person what the problem was and he said “a line down the block had broken,” and after he repaired it, he came here and reset my phone AND internet lines. This was the greatest early Christmas gift I could have received. Yes, I’m doing a happy dance.

I can’t possibly catch up with you at the moment, but I am simply grateful that you chose to visit and spend T time with me today. Thank you for that.

I've learned to read my friends' blogs and get hints to what they enjoy. That way I can buy decent gifts for them. I've used that recipe before and love it every time I make it. Thanks for sharing and thanks for joining T this week.

  12. I agree that there needs to be some sort of class about gift giving ... which makes the receiver (me) sound ungrateful. I have put a band on any of my friends buying me anything that has to be displayed, put away or washed. I have far too much stuff from previous years of what some said "you'll just love it" ...
I like orange brandy coffee ... it's a flavour not coffee with brandy (col).

  13. I loved "Reginald on Christmas Presents," maybe because we've been binge watching "The Crown." Stiff upper lip and all that.

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx
