Bobby Darin died on this date in 1973 at the age of 37 after a lifetime of failing health from heart problems due to rheumatic fever in childhood. It's sad to think of a life cut short, but he left us with many happy memories.
Silent Night:
Christmas Auld Lang Syne:
O Come, All Ye Faithful:
Go Tell It on the Mountain:
He is better known for his pop hit songs like Mack the Knife, sung here in the year he died:
Wow, I've actually heard of him. Too bad he died SO young. I totally enjoyed the Christmas songs, but I liked the Dream Lover even more. Maybe because I am SO burned out on Christmas.
Dream Lover is a treasure. I'm still enjoying the Christmas music and movies, but you do have to pace yourself and not binge ;) We "do" Christmas through January 6, so there's still plenty ahead for us.
I haven't heard that name in a long time and I didn't know the story about rheumatic fever. These are great oldies and perfect for this season. Happy start to your weekend. Hugs-Erika
I wasn't really aware he did Christmas songs, but then almost all singers seem to have put out Christmas albums so I shouldn't be surprised. The first song I remember by Darin was Splish Splash--a silly song. But the Dream Lover turned him into one of the crooner types girls swooned over. He looks so very young on the year he died!
I try to listen to some of the new Christmas music every year. It's easier now that we have the internet and Youtube. Splish Splash! was Darin's first hit. Such a cute song lol
Because this blog does not consist of a single focus topic I chose the name Divers and Sundry where "Divers" means being of many and various kinds, and "Sundry" means consisting of a haphazard assortment of different kinds.
...a life cut short!
ReplyDeleteYes, so sad :(
DeleteHe sure was a dream boat.
ReplyDeleteWasn't he, though!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it. He had presence. I was glad to see such lovely Christmas selections from him.

ReplyDeleteI like hearing the older versions as well as the new-this-year current artists.
