Year's End

Year's End is a poem by Richard Wilbur. You can read it here. It begins
Now winter downs the dying of the year,
And night is all a settlement of snow;
...

We've had unusually warm weather lately -our high Christmas Day was 69F- and I won't be surprised if we never see snow again. I miss the snow we got in the days gone by, but I can still enjoy the happy memories sparked by photos and paintings of snowscapes.

Please join us at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's T Stands for Tuesday blogger gathering. Share a post with a drink in it. Lift a glass with me, and let's toast the old year out and the new year in.

Let us treasure the fond memories and allow ourselves to let go of regret and mistakes from the past. Let us commit to hope in the coming year. May it bring you blessings.

Here's my Raspberry Bellini recipe:

  • 1 Tbsp raspberry jam
  • 4 oz champagne or sparkling white wine
  • 1 fresh raspberry for garnish

  2. Happy New Year! I don’t care if I never see snow . Snow belongs on Christmas cards or mountain tops. I wish I could get Himself to move where there is no snow and no whining because of the humidity.

    1. haha-my husband has the same thoughts on snow as you do-one of the reasons we moved to this part of Missouri-much milder winters than Northern Illinois

    2. Humidity here in Memphis gets to people who aren't used to it. Maybe we should all look into New Mexico ;)

  4. What a brilliant way to ring out the old year (and decade for that matter). That poem is beautiful, but the new year bells are more likely wrangling with rain than snow where you live.

I LOVE that glass tree in the background. It is genuinely beautiful and feels like mid-century modern to me. I will gladly share a glass of raspberry champagne with you as I wish you a happy T Tuesday AND a joyous, healthy, and safe New Year's eve.

    1. That glass tree was a real find! A bargain for (iirc) 40% off $4 at one of our local antique malls. It has a glittery pattern around it which doesn't show up in the photo.

  6. This was a well worded post. I especially liked "allow ourselves to let go of regret and mistakes from the past" because I have a hard time doing that, and am my own harshest critic. Happy T-Day and Happy New Year!

  12. A lovely poem and snowy photo. The drink sounds good and using jam it sounds like it could be easily substituted for other flavours.
    Happy New Year wishes.

Your raspberry whatsamacallit sounds interesting, but I have more eyes for the beautiful glass Xmas tree behind it. Stunning and stylish.
