A Flirtatious Woman is a 1955 film, Jean-Luc Godard's 2nd short film. It is based on Le Signe (The Signal), a short story by Guy de Maupassant, which you can read online here.
I don't think one flirty smile is playing with fire and means we deserve to be tracked down. At least these days the man's behavior would not be brushed aside. The 50's was a completely different world, wasn't it!
Because this blog does not consist of a single focus topic I chose the name Divers and Sundry where "Divers" means being of many and various kinds, and "Sundry" means consisting of a haphazard assortment of different kinds.
I'm not sure I've ready anything by him, though I have always loved his name. So musical.
ReplyDeleteWe had to read de Maupassant in school, but I can't remember what we read.
DeleteThanks, I have added it to my ever growing watch list! In winter there will be days where it's good to stay home and binge! Valerie
ReplyDeleteWinter is the best season for binge-watching :)
DeleteI'm a big fan of shorts. I think Agnes played with fire and got burned!!!

DeleteI think I put my response wrong. I didn't mean she deserved what she got. Rape is still rape, under every and any circumstance.
DeleteI wonder if the scenery of France in the 1950's is romantic. It is fascinating to see how views of a place have changed over the decades. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteYes, and the black and white of the film gives a different feel. I'm glad women can have different expectations now.
DeleteSorry--what a horrible story. :(
ReplyDeleteThat poor woman!
