Fiddler on the Roof

Fiddler on the Roof is an award-winning 1971 musical film directed by Norman Jewison. John Williams arranged the music. Topol stars as Tevye, the Papa of a family of Russian Jews in early 20th-century Imperial Russia. I watched it on the Roku Channel, but it's also available on Freevee. This is a classic. I re-watched it now in memory of Topol because of his recent death at age 87.

Roger Ebert says, "what it does, it does well". Rotten Tomatoes has an audience concensus score of 92%.

  1. That is a classic. (I don't know if I mentioned this movie to you before, or not: The Hallow (2015) - Horror movie that I liked.)

  3. I have never seen this movie (or musical). And it's funny timing because recently I was saying to Mr Man - you know one musicial I think would like to put on the list is Fiddle On The Roof & then a week later we got the flyer for the Drayton Theatre Group's upcoming schedule. Oh yes, Fiddler is on there ... it's time!

  5. I have both Roku and Freevee, so now all I need is TIME, a precious commodity this month.

Hope you don't lose your State representative in the BS removal.

  6. I've always loved that musical. I didn't know till he died that he was only 35 when he made this -- and played the role into his 80s or close to!

  10. I am SO sorry your state is so backward and racially motivated, it kicked two young black persons out of your state legislature, while keeping the white woman who committed the same "offense." I truly believe this is a call for many blacks, but also for young voters and those who may have never thought of voting, to raise their voices and be heard once and for all. If I lived in your state, I would be out on every college campus signing young people up so they could vote in 2024. I was doubly shocked today. First by the idea the three representatives were facing expulsion for requesting increased gun control laws, and second by the racial aspect of the outcome.

    1. It's jaw-dropping the patronizing and insulting was these representatives were spoken to. I'm trying to keep up with coverage, and it's hard because so many outlets are focusing on it.

  11. I´ve never seen it. But I always think of Leonard Nimoy when the name of the musical drops...
