Wear Flowers in Your Hair

Today is the anniversary of the death in 2012 at age 73 of Scott McKenzie, whose best-known song was San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair):

The song was written by John Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas. Ah, that music! It brings back such sweet memories from my childhood.

  1. This is a fabulous song. I can hear it now in my head. I will have to put a flower in my hair today in memory. Hugs-Erika

  3. I was actually SHOCKED when I read yesterday that Woodstock celebrated its 50th anniversary. It seems those songs will never die, but will hopefully live on in our hearts. People have told me I was born a generation too late, because these and the Scott McKenzie song you showcased today are the ones I love more than the ones I grew up to. What a joy to hear this again. May he rest in peace.

    1. I was too young to participate in the counter-culture, but I remember the music well. We didn't get the Age of Aquarius I expected :(

  4. 1967 - I graduated in 1968. This brings back so many memories! His was an iconic song of the idealistic youth--the hippies--the flower children. I am still a flower child. :)

    1. I'd've been in elementary school, and that vibe led me to expect a different kind of world than I actually grew up to find. What happened? :(
