It's a Gift

It's a Gift is a 1934 W.C. Fields comedy. It's a funny movie, and short and easy to watch if you'd just like a taste of this kind of film. Wikipedia says,
the film is perhaps the best example of the recurring theme of the Everyman battling against his domestic entrapment. Historians and critics have often cited its numerous memorable comic moments.

This film is included in the book 1,001 Movies You Must See Before You Die. Filmsite says it "is often cited as W. C. Fields' best and funniest picture - it is undoubtedly one of the greatest, classic comedies ever made". Rotten Tomatoes has a critics score of 100%.

  1. Had to go look up Baby LeRoy. Skimming through the film. Loved the line, I could tell you both where to go. :-D

    1. W.C. Fields isn't my "thing" but I'm glad I've seen these skits. They were definitely influential. I think the isolated one-liners are the best part.

  2. I don't know if I've seen this one but I've seen a few WC Fields films. Vintage films have an appealing charm. Lately I've been into 1970's films. Why, I don't know except maybe they make me think of my youth. I watched Young Frankenstein the other day. It's still pretty funny now. Happy weekend.

    1. Young Frankenstein is a hoot, isn't it! I saw it with my now-husband when it was first released to theaters, and we have a DVD of it we re-watch every once in a while. There were so many good movies in the 70s :)

    1. I hope you enjoy it. It's lighthearted and doesn't require much concentration to follow, so it might be just the thing when we're tired.

  4. Forgot to mention. Sally's procedure lasted until after 3 pm yesterday. I fell asleep and when she was released, she gently touched me to wake me. I was SO tired. I wish I had a laptop or something I could visit people with while I'm out and about waiting for Sally. As it is, I am running behind, as seems to be my fate and theme this week.

    1. Wow! That made for a long day for both of you. I hope she got good results.

I can read blogs on my phone, but I've never tried posting or commenting that way. I have a laptop -it's my only computer- but never carry it around. I can check FB, Twitter, blogs, news stories, etc. on my phone.

  5. Another film I have never seen. I'm more of a murder and mayhem type. Enjoy your weekend, Valerie

    1. This was my first time to see this. I've never been a W.C. Fields fan. Murder and mayhem make for entertaining films. When we first discovered them, we'd count crashes/explosions/deaths and compare, but that didn't last long lol

    1. Fun and lighthearted is a perfect way to describe this one. And it's just an hour long, so it doesn't require the time investment some movies do.

  7. Never saw this one. Fields was a more mellow character in this one than others I've seen. Hapless was the word that ran through my mind the whole time, but in the end it all worked out. LOL!

    1. I found this watchable, which is more than I can say for much of W.C. Fields' work ;)
