Christmas in the Woods

Christmas in the Woods:

by Dallas Lore Sharp, who became known through his charming magazine articles on native birds and small mammals.

I've never heard the word "persimmon" pronounced the way this reader pronounces it.

*******

Mother made these for Christmas presents back in the day:

  4. That is how I say persimmon and I have heard it pronounced...when she first started. But then she started to say it most often with the accent on the first syllable. I googled it and accent on the first syllable is the way the British pronounce it. She said covey very differently also (co-voy). Persimmon is not a word I hear very often up here in the first place--lol! But covey is (cuh-vee). Then I heard an "about" that sounded Canadian! Made me really wonder where she was from. Clicked on links from below her YouTube video and she has an etsy shop...and lives in Toronto! Yup--Canadian.

I did like that you could watch her do crafts while she did her voiceover read. That was different. I do enjoy multitasking--lol!

What a treasure from your mother! Those were quite popular back in the day. They'd get hung on a door so that you'd hear the bells when the door opened and closed. If the bells clanking and ringing drove you crazy (like say if you had young kids running in and out) they would get moved to the wall somewhere by the door--lol! ;)

    1. We say "persimmon" with the accent on the second syllable. I'd never heard it any other way. Thanks for the info. That helps :)

Those hangings were popular, weren't they! I think many women subscribed to the same magazines that would have these directions in them.
