My Sweet Lord

My Sweet Lord:

was George Harrison's first release as a solo artist. It topped charts worldwide and was the biggest-selling single of 1971 in the UK. In America and Britain, the song was the first number-one single by an ex-Beatle. It remains the most popular composition from his post-Beatles career. Harrison died of lung cancer on this date in 2001 at the age of 58. His remains were cremated, and the ashes were scattered according to Hindu tradition in a private ceremony in the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in India.

  3. This is a beautiful piece of music, we love it. So sad that George had to leave this world so relatively young, I think he was a fine man.
All the best and a happy week, Traude

  4. Thank you, I didn´t know he passed and that young. I was born 1972 but certainly (!) I know and love this song. Darn cancer. He could´ve done so much more for us all. At least HIV is under control, if just too late for Freddie.

One could argue George was the best solo artist of the four beatles

  8. Since I was a total Beatle fan. Including cutting my long locks to a Beatle cut, I remember this day too. George was truly the life force of the band.

  10. He was an immense talent, and in my view, very much underrated because Lennon & McCartney got all the attention.

    1. As with Ringo. Their talents were different, but that's one thing that made the group work so well.
