by Leon Bonvin, who died on January 30, 1866. He approached gallerists on rue Laffitte and rue du Bac, but he made few sales of his watercolors. In January 1866, Bonvin traveled to Paris again to offer his watercolors to a dealer, who rejected them as too dark. Desperate, he hung himself the next day in the forest and was discovered a few days later. He was 31 years of age.

Due to the Tyre Nichols tragedy, my attention has been focused on local news and Facebook this week. Investigations continue as does news coverage, though the national news outlets have left. The investigation is widening to cover why the county sheriff officers were present without the knowledge of the sheriff and why fire department personnel didn't render aid. In addition to the 5 police officers fired and criminally charged, 2 more police officer have been suspended and 2 fire department EMTs and a fire department lieutenant have been fired. It's a mess.
...unfortunately, your local news has become international news. Memphis needs to be portrayed in a better light.
ReplyDeleteSuch a mess. So many people failed in their duty.
ReplyDeleteOne tragedy after another, and the police keep up their evil ways. I think everyone hopes that their town is different, but maybe it’s the same everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThe artist’s story is very sad, and not the only one. Modigliani was the same.
With sorrow at your entire post… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I would love to have that pottery piece in the painting-Happy T
ReplyDeleteI don’t blame you for following the events Tyre Nichols. It sounds like there was a lot of negligence. Avoidable negligence at that. That is a lovely painting you showed. It is amazing how the glass looks like glass. It’s too bad Leon Bonvin chose to end his life as he had a lot of talent. Hope you have a decent T day. Hugs Erika
ReplyDeleteA sad story about the artist. His painting looks lovely to me.
ReplyDeleteThe tragedy of Tyre Nichols...I hope they keep digging and investigating so changes are made and people are punished.
I hadn't heard of this incident here, but then I have not watched much news lately. That is truly appalling. Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx
ReplyDeleteThat was so brutal how those men killed that poor man, what's wrong with people today? Love the Lanvin painting.. Valerie
ReplyDeleteWhat a very sad story.
ReplyDeleteBoth, the latter was in the German news as well.
I do not understand that aggression.

This is a beautiful painting and it looks real too. It is sad to hear how Leon Bonvin ended his life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the share. Have a great day!
I love this art piece. So many artist end the way Leon did.
ReplyDeleteThe difference in the painted feeling of weight between the jug and the glass is amazing. I'm not sure why our world has come to the mess it is in. I'm sure it is in mess through. Sad times.
ReplyDeleteThat pottery is beautiful! I have never seen this painting but I like it and all the ones that you share.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
Leon Bonvin's painting is fantastic, and his suicide choice is sad to hear.
ReplyDeleteI often wonder why some cases of police brutality get elevated to national news coverage, while others do not. A man arrested by New Haven, CT police was left paralyzed from the neck down. A similar event occurred in Baltimore, MD, except that person died. How many other cases are there, that only get local news coverage?
Movies: I thought Alterverse 2021 (free on Tubi TV) was good. It's a little slow to get going, but I'm glad I stayed with it, because I liked the interesting plot developments.
Thanks for the movie recommendation. I'll take a look :)
DeleteThe killing of Tyre Nichols has been reported here but I suspect that there is more than we are being told. You do wonder that it could happen…..very sad! There were so many artists that worked for recognition that would only come after their deaths, yet another sad tale! Something cheery next week??? Belated Happy TDay, Chrisx (pearshapedchris I see I am not recognised)
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous painting -- almost photographic. I really appreciate that style. And the Tyre Nichols thing IS a mess and as hard as it is to follow, as often as we've followed such things, it's still important. I'm sure it's all the worse when it hits so close to home.
