Noir of the Week concludes a positive review with this: "It’s a cheap, but delicious buffet of everything noir buffs hunger for — and the final few frames make for one hell of a dessert. It should be on many of those ubiquitous top-ten lists".

I used to post more personal reflections on the blog but gradually drifted away from that somehow. During this new year I am going to try to share a bit more. We are still observing the larger Christmas season here, and that won't end 'til Twelfth Night. Epiphany is January 6th, and we'll have put all our Christmas decorations away by then. But for now, it's still Christmas. Happy Days of Christmas to you and yours! Savor the season. Enjoy each moment.
...for me, Epiphany marks the end of Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYes, for us, too. Or rather 12th Night/Epiphany Eve. Epiphany season is a whole 'nother season.
DeleteI guess Charles Buchinsky decided he needed an easier name to spell. Or else stardom went to his head. Happy 1/2/23 Nita.
ReplyDeleteThe name change came in 1954, I'd imagine as a result of an agent or studio representative suggestion. So many changed their names. Not as many do these days.
DeleteA cheap, delicious buffet. I love that! I don't take things down till after Twelfth Night either. I need the light.
ReplyDeleteSometimes reviewers hit on just the right phrase :)
DeleteI don't know this film at all! E njoy your christmas season, Valerie
ReplyDeleteIt was new to me, too...
DeleteThis sounds interesting, and I liked how you gave us the back story on Bronson. Happy new week and new year, dear.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! and may each new week bring you joy :)
DeleteWe took our Christmas decorations down on New Years Day.
ReplyDeleteDon't know this film but husband Eddie has the book 'The Wanderer' by Sterling Hayden.
All the best Jan
PS Happy New Year Wishes
My mother's tradition was to take everything down on New Year's Eve. It was considered bad luck to leave them up into the new year.
DeleteI didn't realize he wrote a book. Cool!
I haven't put my Christmas things away either and haven't stopped celebrating. Back to work tomorrow so will probably stop. The movie sounds good - I definitely want you to add more of your commentary - it is more helpful than the canned things written to sell or be trendy. Happy New Year and Hugz
ReplyDeleteThanks. It started as just a way to keep track of which movies I've seen, but I realize that without some kind of personal reflection I can't remember them anyway lol I'll try to be better about that.
DeleteI haven't seen this movie, but I always like Sterling Hayden's name. I can see why Bronson was encouraged to change his name. During the Cold War era, Buchinsky sounds too red. Happy T Day and Days of and Days After Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSterling Hayden was in a lot of westerns. He was active for over 40 years!
DeleteNot the point, but... smoking inside a pub!!!!
ReplyDeleteThese movies have - even if crime - a charming atmosphere.
And all the old cars. People behaving!!! Respect!
I think ... may I link to you for a post?
We need a social habit like smoking but without the health risks. Something to do with our hands...
DeleteYes, please feel free to link to me any time you like :)
You have diverse tastes! I like reading about the lives of other bloggers. (ツ) from Jenn Jilks , ON, Canada!
ReplyDeleteI'm serious about that whole "divers and sundry" thing ;)
