Jeremiah Johnson

Jeremiah Johnson is a 1972 western directed by Sydney Pollack and starring Robert Redford and Will Geer. I have the DVD. I don't see it available free anywhere or through any of the subscription services. It's odd what's not available through streaming services.

Rotten Tomatoes has a critics consensus score of 95%. Empire Online concludes, "Pollack does right to put his faith in one man and a whole lot of mountains. The result is impressive."

  1. This is a good film. And it helps Robert Redford is in it too. Happy Saturday.

  3. Another one of my faves. I remember going to the drive-in to see it when first came out. Yes, this is one I own.

    1. Having an actual hard copy is still a good thing for films that aren't in the public domain.

  4. Robert Be Still My 💙Redford. I suspect some of these movies are considered old for the streaming services and not classic enough for young people to know who the actors are

    1. You're most likely right about the reasons. It just always surprises me when things like this aren't anywhere.

  5. I guess it all depends on who bought the rights to any given show.

    1. Yes. This one's available as a rental through several services, and now that I look again you can watch it if you subscribe to Sling. I've never even heard of Sling. And Philo, which I've also not heard of. Both of those services are way more expensive than the ones we currently have.

    2. Sling is meant to cover all the basics of cable kind of like Hulu or youtube tv. Every time we think of switching just to streaming instead of cable by the time we add the channels we don't want to lose it isn't that much cheaper than the cable.

    3. Sling's cheapest level, though, is $40 a month, which is cheaper than cable but way more expensive than any of the services we subscribe to. The same with YouTube TV, which is $64.99 a month. Yikes! Hulu's cheapest tier is $7.99. We haven't missed cable at all. We made our decision based not on the channels we wanted but on the shows we wanted and on all the channels we were paying for but never watching.

    4. A lot of the base level streaming doesn't carry the range of sports that I want to watch.

    5. Now sports _is_ a problem. I get what sumo I can find on YouTube's free service and the NHK app on Roku. We follow international football (soccer) on the ESPN+ streaming service. My husband is a big Cardinals baseball fan, but I swear MLB's attitude towards watching on TV (especially since Memphis is considered in-market for that team) seems to indicate they don't really want fans :( It's ridiculous that major sports aren't more readily available. Frustrating.

  6. This was a really great film. I am also amazed when none of the streaming services have such classic films available. I hope they are not lost to time.

    1. It's still available, just not free through anything I have access to. Too many services out there. Entirely too many. It beats cable, though...

    1. It is. I'm in it for Will Geer and the scenery, but some folks consider Redford to be the scenery ;)

  10. Yes, I am very far behind. I saw this on Turner Movies several years ago. I thought it was quite good.
