Under the Skin is a 2013 science fiction film starring Scarlett Johansson. I watched it on Netflix, but this post was scheduled and the movie isn't there any more. You'd have to pay to see it now on hulu or such, and there are too many films available to me either free or with the Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions I already have. It'd be worth seeing if you're so inclined, but I'd never have seen it if it hadn't been included on Netflix.
trailer:
Roger Ebert's site concludes a positive review with this: "the movie's sensibility is as distinctive as any I've seen. "Under the Skin" is hideously beautiful. Its life force is overwhelming." Rotten Tomatoes has an 85% critics consensus score.
Scarlett does some solid work but usually in what I would deem, bizarre works. The theme that men are meat is a turn of the tables, as women often feel that they are just their body.
I have seen this film, (wow-that doesn't usually happen) and it wasn't my favorite. Maybe I was trying to be too realistic when I watched it. It was long enough ago I don't really remember why it was just OK. But one of the friends I saw it with loved it. Who can say? Happy end of the month.
For some reason, and I can't put my finger on it. I don't care for Scarlett Johansson as an actress. I did watch this movie with my husband Mr. M. and it was just ok for me.
I saw this offered on Netflix back when but had decided to pass. Would have really had to be in the right mood to watch it and never was, I guess--LOL! :)
Because this blog does not consist of a single focus topic I chose the name Divers and Sundry where "Divers" means being of many and various kinds, and "Sundry" means consisting of a haphazard assortment of different kinds.

ReplyDeleteI'll put up with a lot for the sake of watching a science fiction film, but I liked this one fine.

ReplyDeleteI do try to watch the science fiction movies when I see them offered.
DeleteI saw the beginning of the film and didn't like it. Have a great week, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI have learned the value of being willing to stop rather than finish a book or movie.
DeleteI just watched SJ on Louis gate's ancestry show last night... I like her a lot and loved her background story
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about her personal life. Those ancestry shows sound fascinating.
