The Girl in the Spider's Web

The Girl in the Spider's Web is a 2018 thriller film based on a novel which is itself based on characters in Stieg Larsson's Millennium series.

trailer:

Critics were unkind, but audiences liked it better. As a soft reboot of these characters, it's a fine continuation of the story.

    1. Yes. It's based on a book based on those characters.

  4. I don't know if I saw this film. I saw the first one with Dragoon Tattoo, and the rape scene was shocking. This one doesn't jump into my head. But I did very much enjoy the books.

    1. I liked the books, too. It's shocking to see some of those scenes on a screen.

    1. Yes, that series made quite the splash.

  6. When they were new I read all the Dragon Tattoo books, and I've forgotten a lot about them, except that I found them grotesquely violent and I'm not that interested in revisiting the books or the characters. It was kind of faddish.

    1. "Faddish" is a good word for them. I'd rather new authors not expand them.

  7. I loved the Swedish trilogy! They are compelling and dark with unexpected twists and turns. I saw all the English speaking versions, too, which were good but not as good as the Swedish version trio in my opinion. I have never read the books.

    1. I read the books and enjoyed both Swedish and English-speaking films. We have the DVDs lol but haven't re-watched them.

    2. I rarely re-watch but just did with the Swedish trilogy. Rented them again so I could share them with Leah who hadn't seen them. Dagan had but he re-watched them, too. Just that good. Intense and so well done. I bet the books must be page turners!

    3. Yes, they are intense. We just have stacks on the floor still unwatched... The books _are_ page turners. I didn't keep them, though. I've forgotten if I gave them to one of the kids or donated them.

  9. I read the Stieg Larsson books, I'm not a big fan of new authors taking over after the original dies. They may be finely written stories but something is lost.

    1. I agree with you. The Foundation books by Asimov, for example... classics, but we didn't need other authors to continue/expand it. "Get your own ideas" is what I say.

  10. I liked Larsson's books. Pity he had to leave us so soon.
