Hateful Eight

Hateful Eight is a 2015 western directed by Quentin Tarantino. It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Bruce Dern, and Channing Tatum. If you like Tarantino films like I do, you'll like this.

The New York Times has a lengthy review that includes this: "His provocative rereading of history is overshadowed by a plot that manages to be both cumbersome and flimsy." The Guardian calls it "hard to hate but tough to love".

Roger Ebert's site opens with this:
Quentin Tarantino's ultraviolent, ultra-talky sorta-Western "The Hateful Eight" is an impressive display of film craft and a profoundly ugly movie—so gleeful in its violence and so nihilistic in its world view that it feels as though the director is daring his detractors to see it as a confirmation of their worst fears about his art.
Empire Online says, "On a par with Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight starts low-key but ultimately delivers big, bold, blood-soaked rewards. Roll on, QT Western number three." Rotten Tomatoes has an audience rating of 76%.

  1. I love westerns and the trailer looks superb, although I'm sure it is very violent being a Tarantino film so I will have to give it a miss ...lol 😉. Thanks and wishing you a lovely weekend my friend! J 😊

    1. The blood pours like rain. I swear it'd be harder to watch if it wasn't soooo over the top. My husband watched with me and was not happy with the relentless violence.

  2. We just watched this film a month ago and I guess I can officially say I have a hard time with Quentin Tarantino films. They are well made and interesting stories, and I guess I need to be more tongue and cheek, but there's just something I don't really like. Maybe the violence-but of course there is violence in so many films. I'm glad to read someone enjoys them. Otherwise I might wonder why he keeps getting so much press. :) Hugs-Erika

    1. Tarantino has an edge and a dark humor I like, but my husband does not like his films at all. He objects to the violence and the blood, and there's plenty of that to object to in his movies, that's certain....

  4. Like you, I'm a huge Tarantino fan. I remember some people saying how much they hate his gore, but I actually believe the gore feels right, or it wouldn't be a Tarantino film. I can't exactly describe why I like his films so much, but I think the gore adds to the overall storytelling he conveys. I will watch this one when it comes to tv or on the internet.

    1. Yes, it's hard for me to explain what about his movies I like. When I tried to explain to my husband why I liked Kill Bill I made no sense at all lol

  5. To me, Tarantino has the darkest, most violent sense of humor. If you have to be a little warped to appreciate him than I guess I am--LOL! I laughed many times, enjoyed the gradually woven plot, and thought the ending vastly, sickly satisfying. :)
