The Night Before Christmas is a 1961 Soviet film based on the story Christmas Eve by Nocolai Gogol. Yes, another one. Gogol adaptations seem to be as popular in Russian-speaking areas as Dickens adaptations are in English-speaking ones.

While I watched it I drank some of this new coffee The Daughter and Son-in-Law gave us for Christmas:
It's good, very mild. Our favorites are still Peet's Italian Roast and Ugly Mug Hardy Passion. It's always fun to try new kinds, though.

Scott gave me some Italian Roast because he wants me to expand my horizons. I told him I preferred French Roast and he assured me Italian is even darker than French. I know I'n going to LOVE it. Must make it soon.
ReplyDeleteLoved the analogy between Dickens and Russian tales.
I don't know a thing about the different roasts and have had both Italian and French roast coffees that tasted bitter, which I don't like. Peets is a hearty-tasting blend we especially like (but I'd be hard-pressed to explain why), and we have it for lunch every day. But then I also like the Folgers Classic Roast, so I'm no coffee connoisseur needing specialty blends ;)
Deletemy computer keeps acting up, won't let me watch it..I'll try again later..
ReplyDeleteI can only have decaf, but at least it's got a rich flavor.
I don't have any trouble with caffeine, but I know some people who react badly to it and one who is actually allergic to coffee of any kind. He drinks hot chocolate and tea and doesn't know what he's missing :)
DeleteThese Soviet films have a unique feel to them, don't they? I'm not sure I like them. But I guess they need to grow on me. I must say though, I do like seeing something unique and different. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI like the variety of different kinds of foreign films. There aren't many I won't watch all the way through, though I don't re-watch many of them ;)
