The Merry Misogynist is the 6th book in the Dr. Siri Paiboun mystery series by Colin Cotterill. I'm reading these in order, but I'll admit this one is my least favorite by far. There was also one mis-used word -"fair" instead of "fare". Annoying. I have the next one, and I trust it'll be back up to the quality I had come to expect.
from the back of the book:
When the corpse of a rural beauty turns up in Dr. Siri's morgue, his curiosity is piqued. The victim was tied to a tree and strangled, but she had not, as the doctor had expected, been raped. On a trip to the hinterlands, Siri leaarns that many women have been killed this way, and he soon discovers that not only pretty maidens are at risk. Seventy-three-year-old coroners can be victims, too.Kirkus Reviews has a positive review.
...merry, you say?
ReplyDeleteBook titles, whatcha gonna do :(
DeleteThe title would make me pass it by
ReplyDeleteThe title wasn't the part of the book I had problems with, especially as I'm familiar with the main characters. No, there were other problems, much worse problems.
DeleteIt seems like more often than not in newer fiction I will find similar typos or double words. I thought I was especially observant until I realized how many mistakes there were.
ReplyDeleteThey need more editors/proofreaders. I think that's where the failing is.
DeleteI'm laughing at your comment above! I'm not familiar with the book or the author. I think I'll keep it that way.
ReplyDeleteThey've been quite interesting 'til now. This one was an outlier.
DeleteThere's always one book in any series that doesn't live up to the others. Hope the next one is better.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've already passed this one on, while the previous books are still on my shelves waiting to be re-read lol The next one is on my bedside table :)
DeleteSorry this one sounds like kind of a let down for you. I hope the next one is better. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm confident it will be. All the others have been great fun.
DeleteIt is frustrating when a book well into a series disappoints. I have that with my favourite, Louise Penny. One of the books I did not like is because it features two of the characters I like the least ... it's funny how we become attached to characters.
ReplyDeleteI am attached to these characters. I almost quit reading one of the earlier books, because I was afraid they had killed off a character I liked. I was sooo angry! lol
DeleteSuch a shame about the wording, I get frustrated when stories lack continuity too! Happy wishes 😁. Hugs, Jo x
DeleteI enjoy this series by Cotteril. The characters evolve -- I'm glad you are reading in order. I'm not that far along!
ReplyDeleteI was sure I had left a comment here. I actually thought the info from the back of the book sounded like something I might enjoy reading. I know those blurbs are meant to pull you in, but it really sounds good to me.
