Friends in High Places is a Commissario Guido Brunetti mystery by Donna Leon. This is 9th in the series. I am still enjoying this series.
from the back of the book:
In Donna Leon's ninth novel featuring her celebrated protagonist, Commissario Guido Brunneti finds himself caught up in a typically Venetian problem: red tape over renovations. Visited by a young bureaucrat, Brunetti learns that, officially, his apartment does not exist. The extra floor that was added years before was never approved. But what begins as a troublesome headache ends with the bureaucrat found dead after a mysterious fall from a scaffold. Brunetti starts an investigation that takes him into unfamiliar and dangerous areas of Venetian life, and shows him, once again, what a difference it makes to have friends in high places.
Thanks for the book recommendation. This series has been quite popular, so in our library system, I have long waits to get the next book. I like Brunetti's love of food.
ReplyDeleteI love how he describes the food! It adds so much atmosphere :)
DeleteI loved all of the books and films! Valerie
ReplyDeleteI wish I had access to the series, but that'd be a whole 'nother paid subscription and I hafta stop somewhere :(
DeleteI know that feeling!
DeleteIt's worse than cable, and that's what we thought we were getting away from lol! We're trying a month of HBO Max right now, but it's too expensive to keep as a regular thing.
DeleteI don't have friends in high places
ReplyDeleteYeah, you and me both.
Delete...and it's also a great song.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know it was a song.
DeleteI really need to read a book from this series I think. Happy March!
ReplyDeleteThey make for fun reading. I like the characters.
DeleteBook number 30 in the Brunetti series is about to be published! I know I have read many of them, but looking over a list with a synopsis of each book, I can’t remember which ones I actually did read. I do like Brunetti and his family and the great meals they cook! (I own the Brunetti cookbook.)
ReplyDeletebe safe... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I should look for that cookbook. The food in the novels always sounds good :)
DeleteMany thanks for the book recommendation.
ReplyDeleteHappy March wishes.
All the best Jan
Spring has Sprung! I'm happy with that :)
DeleteThis series seems like something I could get into. Have a nice evening.
ReplyDeleteThe characters are engaging, and I enjoy their lives and the plots of the mysteries.
DeleteI adore Guido Brunetti and Paola. Oh, what a wonderful family. I am almost caught up to you -- I will start Noble Radiance and then Fatal Remedies before this one. I never really wanted to visit Venice before but these could change my mind! (And oh, they eat well!)
ReplyDeleteI have read some of these further along in the series, because I was lucky enough to find some of the later ones used. I'm filling in now as I get them as presents. Someone has said there's a cookbook. I may need to ask for that lol
