The film begins during the Christmas season. I watched it on Netflix. I tend to schedule posts ahead of time, and this isn't on Netflix anymore. You can watch it free on Tubi. If you have an Amazon Prime subscription you'll find it here.
The Guardian calls it a "supremely entertaining Poe-inspired gothic thriller". Variety says, "A tony British cast is underserved by this well-mounted but pointless version of an Edgar Allan Poe story." Roger Ebert's site calls it "a disappointingly shallow affair that wastes an opportunity to breathe life into a timeless Edgar Allen Poe short story."
...an asylum has an old sound to it.ReplyDelete
They don't call them that any more.Delete
An alternate Christmas movie. Cool! I'll have to go look for it on TubiReplyDelete
There are several that take place during the season but aren't at all Christmas-yDelete
The cast makes me want to view this one but the reviews are not all that great. Maybe I'll give it a whirl anyhow.ReplyDelete
I think professional critics feel the need to find something wrong and are too easily disappointed. Not everything can be Citizen Kane.Delete
I need to check this out as it sounds good, especially with just a bit of horror. Too bad it's not on netflix, but I will check it out on Prime. Thanks!ReplyDelete
I admit I don't really understand why some movies are on a particular service for a while and are then gone.Delete
I'll see if I can find this on Tubi, but I am running behind again.ReplyDelete
It's raining here today. Really raining! I'd planned a grocery trip but won't go as long as it's raining like this.Delete
I've started scheduling Christmas movie posts for _next_ year lol, so I'm a happy camper.
Speaking of scheduling posts, I'll just say you need to keep the T Tuesday events going for the foreseable future. I'll say no more ;)m
I don't EVER plan to give up the T Tuesday posts, although some people might get tired of my dining room table after awhile.Delete
I've got a few posts scheduled for several years in the future because I wanted them posted close to the anniversary of their deaths ;)Delete
This sounds good, thanks! Have a great day, ValerieReplyDelete
You, too! I feel encouraged by the seasonable spirit, so all my days are good days right now :)Delete
I actually watched this years ago and didn't care much for it. I thought with the actors it might be better than it was. But then, as you know, horror flicks are not my favorite in the first place. ;)ReplyDelete
I like the Poe story, and I was happy to see a Christmas connection. I'm easily pleased ;)Delete
I have to agree with Rita. I was expecting more or different from this film.ReplyDelete
I didn't have expectations at all, only watching it because of the Christmas connection. I wonder what actors think after a film like this is released and it is met with less than enthusiasm.Delete
Love how you find Christmas related stories - wonderful! Happy wishes, Jo xReplyDelete
It's surprising how many movies have one scene that's Christmas-related lolDelete
