Finn Family Moomintroll is the third book in Tove Jansson's Moomins series. These are actually children's books, but don't let that stop you. I love these!
from the back of the book:
In the Forests of Finland...
... live many small creatures called Moomintrolls. Unlike regular trolls, they love sunshine and warmth and, in fact, hibernate all winter long. In the spring of each year they awake -the whole Moomin family and their friends and acquaintances of all sizes and sometimes very off shapes. On the first day of this particular spring Moomintroll and his friends Sniff and Snufkin find a Hobgoblin's Hat. They take it home to Moominmamma and Moominpappa, which sets off many unexpected and disturbing events -the kind that always seem to happen in Moominvalley.
I think I might be part Moomintroll. I often wander the children book area at the library, such interesting titles & book covers. Not because I'm weird but I've been trying to find a book my Mom read to me when I was very little. Not sure of the title but the main character is a little girl named Love Joy & she has a secret garden in the bombed out area of a church in London (post WWII) & she steals seeds to plant a flower garden.)
ReplyDeleteIs this the book you remember: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Episode_of_Sparrows

DeleteI remember trying to find books knowing only a few key elements from long-ago readings. It can be so frustrating. I'm so happy I could help :)
DeleteThis sounds fun. I like the sound of Moominmamma and Moominpappa
ReplyDeleteIt's a great series. I have all but one of them :)

ReplyDeleteAnd now I read them just for me ;)
DeleteI've never heard of this. I suspect children would love it.
ReplyDeleteMy kids all did. I wish I'd discovered them earlier :)
DeleteThese sound like great books for the grandboys! Thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteMy kids got such a kick out of these, and now there are actual themed products for sale (mugs, etc.) if you're interested. What I wouldn't have given for character mugs back in the day lol
DeleteThis sounds fantastic. I love a good children's story every now and again. There are so many great stories with so much depth, because as you know, kids books are not always shallow reading. I am going to check it out. Happy weekend. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI hope you like them. They always made a big hit with us :) The characters are so different from what we saw in other books.
DeleteThis is a trip down memory lane! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm always excited to see other people love these, too :)
