Not much into musicals, I don't think I've seen this version. I've seen a remake that was done in the 1950s only I never knew there were earlier versions until today.
ReplyDeleteThis one is based on the Broadway musical that was based on the Edna Ferber book. There was a film adaptation even earlier than this one. I think the 1951 version is the best-known.
DeleteI always enjoyed these old musicals-they were around when I was growing up-My Mom loved them too and took us kids to the broadway theater in chicago several times-good memories-thanks for sharing

DeleteI've actually seen this one long ago. I have to be in the right mood for musicals, but it was one thing they'd show on afternoons on TV when I was growing up. They'd sometimes have a week or two of just musicals, so I have seen quite a few--LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteI never saw many musicals on tv, but I've still managed to see quite a few. Man of La Mancha, Pippin, West Side Story, Chicago, Jesus Christ Superstar... I do love them :)
DeleteI grew up in Minneapolis and this one station showed movies from broadway musicals and all the Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Doris Day...even remember Jimmy Stewart singing and hoofing. LOL!
