A Baby Tramp is an 1893 ghost story by Ambrose Bierce. It can be read online. This story is not one of his most famous ones, but I'm going to work my way through his stories that I can find online.
Bierce was a prolific author, and I recently wrote about his story Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.

Disappearing without a trace in 1913 that sounds like it is right up my alley.
ReplyDeletewe looked up a list of mysterious disappearances, and there are quite a few. some of them aren't quite so mysterious, though, since they seem to be pretty obviously homicides where the body just hasn't been found or accidents at sea where remains were never located.
