Grease

Grease is a 1978 American musical romantic comedy film about greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John), who develop an attraction for each other during a summer romance. My Max list continues to provide fun. The music here is a highlight. Some of the social situations and the idea that you must conform to the male expectation to get along in life... those are troublesome.

  2. I like this film and it is definitely a classic. I like the cast. I know what you mean about troublesome ideas regarding a male focused world, but I am guessing that was probably quite true in the 1950's, and it certainly hadn't fully changed in in 1978 when this film came out. At least it hadn't changed in the house I grow up in in 1978. Happy Thursday.

    1. It hasn't really changed now :( But I like the movie better now than when I first saw it when it was released. The truth hurts, doesn't it :(

  4. Movies like this remind me that I am glad things have changed--at least quite a bit. I grew up in that era where in Home Ec class we were taught that the best way to be a pleasing female was to learn all about what he was interested in, to look presentable at all times, have the house clean when he came home, make interesting meals, and how to budget your household allowance. They never assumed you would have a job or a career. And that was the late 60s! The movie fit the time period, that's for sure. Women were supposed to fit whatever part the guy wanted...become who they desired. Never thought about what we wanted. I thought it sucked at the time. Still sucks. But it is a classic movie and it is still fun to watch--if a bit silly. I think that's when we found out Travolta was a natural dancer--lol! :)

    1. Yes, that attitude still remains in many ways, but I can enjoy the scenes now more so than when it was released. They are just sooo adorable lol

  6. I've never seen the entire film, but the only good thing is the music. I was appalled by the way sex and romance were treated.

    1. It depicts a certain time period and does it well. And the lead couple have a chemistry that's unexpected. I'm a fan :)
