ReplyDeleteI didn't know Gauguin died so young. But you can tell his style once you look at a few of his pieces. Happy T day Nita. hugs-Erika

ReplyDeleteI never enjoyed painting still-life's but I love looking at them.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
The still life reminds me of Cezanne. Sad that Gauguin is now being discovered as kind of a predator on those beautiful Polynesian girls, who always seemed part of some surreal world.

ReplyDeleteHappy T and new week, hugs
I know Van Gogh was influenced by him and he by Van Gogh. I love this still life. He is actually a pretty famous guy when it comes to museum pieces. Seems every museum I've ever been to has had at least one or more of his works. Thanks for sharing this wonderful painting and video you have given us for T this Tuesday, dear Nita.

ReplyDeleteI wish you a very nice Wednesday, big hugs, Caty
I went to the museum on the island of Hiva Oa, on the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. This museum is dedicated to the French painter Paul Gauguin. These islands are about 1500 km north of Tahiti and I visited them last October. There were so many of his paintings. He went through different genres. He had many self portraits. But his Marquesas scenes were very colorful. I also went to his grave, on top of a hill, surrounded with tropical flowers. Unfortunately, he was not well liked there on the island. His grave is next to the Belgian-French singer Jacques Brel.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite artists! My parents had a big reproduction of his Ta Matete hanging in the living room, so he was kind of my childhood companion.
ReplyDeleteThank you V
ReplyDeleteI never liked his paintings of the native women but I knew nothing about him. I think I like them even less now. lol!
