A Star Shall Rise is a 1952 television production of Family Theatre. Raymond Burr stars as a skeptical Wise Man who accompanies his fellow scholars who follow the star heralding the birth of the newborn king. I love how Mary is featured here as an active agent, leading people to the child and not just passive background in the scene.

...let's hope that 2021 will be a bright year.
ReplyDeleteHope springs eternal :)
DeleteHappy 8th day of Christmas to you, and also happy new year. I hope you continue to find some great videos and books to share with us. I did enjoy today's video. I'm with you about Mary. Hope your 2021 is happy, healthy and a good one. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I discovered the 12 days of Christmas. It helps me not have such a sudden fall from the high point of Christmas day :) I hope a happy healthy and safe new year for you, too. May we find joy :)
DeleteHappy 8th Day of Christmas! The TV series sounds like an interesting interpretation of the three kings search 😀. All the very best for 2021, let's hope it's a better year for everyone - Happy New Year! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see the story dramatized in different ways.
DeleteVery old school. These kinds of shows remind me of when I was a little kid...Mom and Dad watching on the little black and white with the small screen.
ReplyDeleteThe new year is finally here! May it eventually be a much better one. :)
I don't know of any similar series now, but it used to be a thing.
DeleteThere were a couple of playhouses and theaters. I can't think of their names right now, but they had performances that were put on like plays, too. They were very popular for a time.
DeleteYes, they were weekly live performances, if I'm remembering right... anthology series with a different performance each week. They were popular in the 50s, but I didn't watch tv 'til the 60s so don't remember them from their first runs. There's a list here:

I'm looking forward to more light in spring! Valerie
ReplyDeleteYou and me both! We've had clouds/overcast/rain for _days_ :(
DeleteI love Raymond Burr (I watch Perry Mason every weekday morning while I do email!) -- I'll have to check this one out!
ReplyDeleteHe was good, I think, but is mostly known for Perry Mason.
DeleteI had planned to be here sooner, but my electricity went off early yesterday morning. We got SLAMMED with ice and snow, making 2021’s first day seem more like another day in 2020 rather than the start of a new year. I saw you were supposed to get something similar, but the ice and snow shown on radar were out of the region before I got my electricity back.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed seeing this very different film. I was surprised by how this was interpreted. Happy 8th day of Christmas. I watched a show on PBS about how the British Tudors celebrated the 12 days of Christmas. I knew practically nothing, except the song (with the partridge in a pear tree). I was totally unaware of the religious aspect until I watched that special. It is fascinating you are sharing it, too.
We got rain and highs in the 50s lol
DeleteWe've always observed the 12 Days of Christmas, though not in anything like the Tudor manner. We leave our tree up 'til 12th night, for example, and celebrate Epiphany every year.
My good wishes to you for a healthy and happy 2021.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you :) and also with you and yours
