BFI says,
Widely regarded as the most convincing screen adaptation of The Merchant of Venice to date, this ATV production was sourced from Jonathan Miller's acclaimed 1970 National Theatre staging.
Aside from its artistic merit, it's also a valuable historical record, preserving Laurence Olivier's farewell to stage Shakespeare...
...I found it interesting that because of the lockdown the canals of Venice are clean and clear. There's a silver lining to be found in hard times.
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing videos of the dolphins in Venice. Just amazing how quickly they cleared up :)

Deletenope, the dolphins are real. I mean Trump is president, Kelly Anne Conway insists there's such a thing as #AlternativeFacts, and Jared Kushner is crowd-sourcing our pandemic response on Facebook lol The Dolphins Are Real, even if the birds aren't ;)
DeleteWill have to find time for this
ReplyDeleteI loved this one.

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
DeleteSometimes it's good to be late visiting. I can see what others have posted. Yes, the canals are clearing, but I've not heard of dolphins in the canals. However, I HAVE seen reports that the seismic shift is lessening, much of it due to noise reduction. Our buses, cars, and trains are fewer, which contributes to the reduction. Also, air pollution has improved considerably, also because there are fewer buses, cars, trains, and airplanes polluting the atmosphere. Even though Trump has destroyed our environmental acts that were previously passed, nature had a way of healing itself despite his efforts.
ReplyDeleteCJ is right that the dolphins are aspirational ;) We'll be right back where we were before once this is past. We never learn :(
