trailer:
Variety concludes that it "would have been more aptly called “The Adequate Seven.”" Rolling Stone says, "The new Seven isn’t aiming for cinema immortality. It’s two hours of hardcore, shoot-em-up pow and it’s entertaining as hell."
Roger Ebert's site opens a 2-star review with this: "Rarely have so many charismatic actors been used in a film that feels quite as soulless as Antoine Fuqua’s update of “The Magnificent Seven.”" Rotten Tomatoes has an audience score of 72%.
Rarely does a remake outshine the original. I'll stick with the original on this one.
ReplyDeleteYes. I don't know why they re-make some movies....
DeleteI love the Magnificent Seven and have watched it many times, I didn't know about the remake in 2016 though ...lol 😉. Thanks for your recommendation, I best stick to the original. Happy Saturday! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteI think they'd have been better off making a western that wasn't a revisiting of such a classic. The cast was good.
DeleteI had never seen the Magnificent7, or heard of the remake, but the trailer was certainly action packed. Since I've seen neither of these, I have nothing to compare them to. However, the remake seems to have a fabulous cast of characters. Thanks for your review.
ReplyDeleteI'd highly recommend the original Magnificent 7 if you like westerns. It never gets old.
DeleteI thought it was okay, but then I like several of the actors and it was a low bar--LOL! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly :)
DeleteYou do find the most unusual movies (lol). I've not seen any of these 3 movies. So many remakes of old classic movies, I wonder is Hollywood running out of ideas. The remakes all take advantage but not necessarily for the betterment, of the technology of CGI ...
ReplyDeleteIt was through my class "female relationships portrayed in the movies" that I found several old classic movies which I fell in love with; Enchanted April, Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes. The acting made the movies not need CGI or blowing up things to keep our attention. Oh yes we watched "Thelma & Louise" but I did not like.
I do wish we saw more new ideas and fewer re-makes. "Female relationships portrayed in the movies" sounds like a class I'd enjoy :)
DeleteI liked this film, even though I expected a little more "happy"ending. I hadn't seen the first one until after I watched this one. Still, it was a good film. Happy weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteMaybe introducing more people to the original is reason enough for a re-make :) I hadn't considered that!
