Small Treats

Ain't it the truth! Have a small treat and look into Iris Murdoch, whose life and works are well worth your time. I've read several books by her, including The Black Prince, The Good Apprentice, and A Fairly Honorable Defeat. I have several on my TBR shelf waiting their turn.

Here's an interview with her from 1990:

They discuss her childhood, her university years, her civil service work during WW2, the offer of a fellowship in America which was lost because of the McCarron Act, her studies in Ethics and Philosophy, and much more.

She is a fascinating person.

Please check out the T Tuesday link gathering at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog, where Elizabeth is highlighting Spring tulips.

  1. Great graphic and quote. Murdoch has been on my "get around to" list of authors for some time. I guess I should actually get around to reading something by her.

  6. I'll have to come back and listen. Did you ever see the movie Iris with Judi Dench and Jim Broadbent? Amazing!
Little joys and small treats--ahhh! That is my life these past years. Totally agree.
    Happy T-Day! :)

    1. I never saw the movie and haven't read her husband's memoir. She was so brilliant, it's hard to think of her ending her life like that.

  8. Hello and Happy T Day! My computer is acting up so I didn't want to risk playing the video, sounds like a good one though. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your week.

  10. I LOVE T day because I learn SO much. Iris Murdoch was one interesting lady. Although I'd heard of the McCarron Act, it was one similar to the McCarthy hearings, where America's fear of communism overrode our sense of justice and equality.

Thanks for sharing Iris with us for T this Tuesday, and thanks for the lovely tea pot and small treats!

  11. I remember reading your review of a Murdoch book and deciding to read The Green Knight which I had bought at a sale. The book is still unread, it's time to pick it off the shelf! She sounds like an interesting woman and that os such a precious cover.
