The Menu is a 2022 black comedy film. Ralph Fiennes stars as the celebrity chef holding a special event for a small carefully selected clientele. I'm thinking I wasn't the target audience for this movie, as fine dining isn't something I'm familiar with. I've been to expensive, fancy local restaurants maybe once a decade during my adult life, and none of them provide the kind of pretentious experience skewered in this film. I don't generally hold that one must have a personal experience that connects with a film to appreciate or enjoy it, but in this case I think it would've helped. I did find the ending satisfying. I watched it on HBO Max.
trailer:
The Guardian says, "A bunch of ultra-wealthy foodies get more than they bargained for in this riotous black comedy starring Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy." Roger Ebert's site has a positive review. Rotten Tomatoes has an 88% critics consensus rating.

...with computers, menu has taken on a new meaning.
ReplyDeleteI've wondered about this film seeing the ads for it on TV. Thanks for sharing. We've been watching Star Trek Discovery as the hubby picked up Paramonth +. I wasn't sure about it at first but it has really gotten to be a good series. And there are so many episodes. Happy T day Nita. Hope you have a warm Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI was afraid to watch this movie because I thought it was going to be another Banshees of Inisherin
ReplyDeleteI've heard very mixed reviews about this one.
ReplyDeleteI do like Ralph Fiennes, and been to some fancy restaurants back in the day, but not seen this movie, will have to see if we have it here. Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure this would interest me. Thanks. I think I'll pass. LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this film, and fine dining is not my thing either! Happy T Day, Valerie

Haven't heard of this one.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
I've had some incredibly fine dining experiences, especially when I lived in the KC area and when I was doing my internship in Omaha. However, NONE of my experiences equals the trailer I saw. I fear I would have to pass because I only found ONE thing funny in the trailer and it was the remark about the Rolex. Other than that, it was just scary. Thanks for sharing it, though. And thanks for showcasing it for T this Tuesday, too.
ReplyDeleteNot my thing either (although I love good food, but I think there is a difference between good food and fine dining. ...or perhaps not....)
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for sharing.
Happy belated T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
