Jennifer's Body is a 2009 comedy horror film, considered a cult classic by some. It's better-appreciated now than when it was first released. I watched it on Amazon Prime.
Many movies are like that. There are Academy Award winners that nobody watches anymore, for example, so they are less appreciated over time while other films from that same year rise in appreciation. This one has become appreciated as a feminist statement. Marketing at the time focused on older teen/young adult boys not realizing how much the girls would get it, so it didn't do well at the box office. It was rated "R" and it lost a lot of the audience it might have appealed to because the 16 year olds couldn't see it in the theater and forgot about it before it made it to video. Now that it's more available and more people can see it it reaches a wider audience. Also, you'd be surprised at how hard a sell the horror comedy is. People hear the two words together and just aren't willing to give it a chance.
Because this blog does not consist of a single focus topic I chose the name Divers and Sundry where "Divers" means being of many and various kinds, and "Sundry" means consisting of a haphazard assortment of different kinds.
...new to me, but most things are.
ReplyDeleteSeems like I remember when it came out, but I had never seen it before.
DeleteI think I'll watch this while I have my lunch!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it.
DeleteI'm curious, why is it better appreciated now than when it was released? Is that because it has become a cult classic?

DeleteEven though it is a horror comedy it is one I own and like the movie.
ReplyDeleteSome of the horror comedies do a great job.
DeleteI think I'll pass on this one! Valerie
ReplyDeleteWe can't watch everything, after all...
DeleteI think I got it at Blockbusters, kind of campy.
ReplyDeleteYes, campy :) I miss Blockbusters.
DeleteThere is still one in the Pacific Northwest I forget where but that is a heck of a drive from Ohio.
DeleteWe still have physical redbox machines here, but it's not the same. We do have an independent video rental store here that does a great business.
