Appointment with Death is a 1988 adaptation of the 1938 Agatha Christie novel. It stars Peter Ustinov (in his final portrayal of Hercule Poirot), Lauren Bacall, Carrie Fisher, John Gielgud, Piper Laurie, Hayley Mills, Jenny Seagrove, and David Soul. It was not well-reviewed and is not widely available, but I found it on Tubi. Ustinov is not my favorite Poirot, but even so this was a fun movie. Look at that cast!

...I'm not sure if I will have an appointment.
ReplyDeleteDeath has an appointment with me ;) I guess I'll hafta keep it...
DeleteI couldn't get the trailer to play, but no matter, I can go looking for it later. What a stellar cast for the movie. Agatha Christie stories always provide some of the best movie bases & they all hold up over time.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a trailer. It's the full film via Daily Motion. The video works for me...
DeleteShe does write stories that hold up, doesn't she!
I can't remember whether I've seen this or not. I always liked Peter Ustinov. Big names in the cast
ReplyDeleteThe cast is wonderful!
DeleteI know I've seen this, but I can't remember what happens. I'm with you about Ustinov being Poirot (I think I prefer David Suchet), but usually Agatha's book in movie form are fun to watch. Happy new week.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the other Poirots, but Suchet is the best :)
DeleteI liked this one although it wasn't as good as some of the others. Have a great week, Valerie
ReplyDeleteExactly. Just another adaptation. But I tend to watch them all ;)
DeleteI can't remember if I have seen this, either. Looks like an interesting cast. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, the cast is a real treat!
DeleteI've never seen Poirot played by anyone except David Suchet. That is a truly amazing cast, though. LOTS of big names.
ReplyDeleteThere've been several Poirots through the years, though I think Suchet is the only one who has done the complete stories. At least I think he did them all... I think Kenneth Branagh is the most recent. He has a third Poirot film in the works.
DeleteI really enjoyed this movie and I thought it got a bad rap in the press. (I agree on Ustinov, though. He's fine -- but not my favorite!)
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with the cast. I'm glad Suchet isn't proving too intimidating and other actors are continuing to step up. Suchet is my favorite.
