The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 musical film adaptation of the L. Frank Baum children's book. I post this today in memory of Jack Haley, who played the Tin Man, and who died on this date in 1979 at the age of 81 of a heart attack. He had remained active until the week before his death.

trailer:

Here's the scene where they find the Tin Man:

I have always considered this a horror movie, the first horror movie I ever saw. I remember Mother sitting me and my sister in Daddy's recliner with a blanket to watch it on TV. It was years before I could watch it all the way through.

  3. This is my favorite horror movie of all time! I'm glad you classify it as a horror movie. Jack Haley grew up outside of Boston so Himself and I are always delighted to hear the Boston accent all the way through Haley's performance in Oz. You can take the boy out of Boston, but you can't get rid of the accent. If I only had a haht. 💙

    1. lol! That's all new to me. Fun! I've heard a Boston accent is like a Southern accent in that everybody thinks they can imitate it but nobody gets it right.

  8. I remember CJ calling it a horror story, so that is what I call it now. I have always loved it, though, and was never afraid of anything, including the flying monkeys.

    1. The flying monkeys were never a problem for me. I always kinda felt sorry for them.

  9. I remember when they used to show this every year on TV. Always watched and loved it! I thought of it as like one of the original fairy tales or Mother Goose stories when I was a kid. Those were all horrible really--LOL! They seemed to be created to scare children into behaving well, you know? And yet I never thought of Oz as a horror movie.

    1. Yes, every year! And I watched it every year :) It was that scene early on where the wicked neighbor on the bike transformed into the wicked witch I found so scary.
