Gidget (1959)

Gidget is a 1959 comedy film I'm posting in honor of James Darren's birthday today. He's having a long and varied career, and I was happy to see him become a part of the Star Trek universe as Vic Fontaine.

The movie Gidget was one of his early roles. In it he plays Moondoggie, Gidget's romantic interest. Also in this film are Sandra Dee (as Gidget), Cliff Robertson, Arthur O'Connell, Yvonne Craig, and Doug McClure. You can watch it free at Tubi.

I was a huge fan of his in the TV series Time Tunnel. Here's the first episode:



It only ran for one season, because network decision-makers were clueless.

    Call me weird but this movie is on my wishlist. One of these days I am going spent the money to watch it on Amazon. And if it becomes free, I will watch it sooner. Happy mid-week Nita.

    I preferred Sally Field as Gidget from the TV show. Abostively loved Time Tunnel though I was a fan of Robert Colbert

      Sally Field made a great Gidget. I'm surprised it only lasted a year.

      Sally Field was well cast as Gidget. I haven't see it since it first aired. I wonder if it's available anywhere...

      I definitely remember Sally Field and the Gidget series. I meant I didn't remember The Time Tunnel. I did peek BTW but it didn't keep my interest. Oh well.

      Time Tunnel depends on being watched in strict series order. It was a wonderful exploration of historic events. I think it starts off with the Titanic (iirc).

    I remember watching the Time Tunnel, not the individual stories but the going through the tunnel and being somewhere else. Just some pure escapist fun.

    I never saw a Gidget movie, and never heard of Time Tunnel, but I will watch the episode when I catch up visiting everyone.

      I haven't seen Time Tunnel in ages and don't know how well it hold up. I was a big fan back in the day, though.
