trailer:
Rolling Stone calls it "extraordinary" and closes its review with this:
Evocative, mysterious and shot through with bruising humor and heartbreak, A Monster Calls gets you where you live and where there’s no place to hide. There’s magic in it.The Guardian has a positive review and says, "This is not just a film about grief; it’s a film that immerses you in grief’s journey." Empire Online says, "if you let the film in, it’s unlikely to let you leave the cinema with dry eyes." Roger Ebert's site calls it "a metaphorical allegory of childhood, illness, death, and grief. And an often very powerful film." Rotten Tomatoes has a critics consensus score of 86%.
I saw this film and loved it! Have a great day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to get a break from the heat tomorrow. I may go to a park :)
DeleteI wondered about this one. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful!
DeleteThis sounds pretty good. Have you watched the Locke and Key series on Netflix? It's done by Stephen Kings' son and I heard the new season is on. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI watched 2 episodes of Locke and Key and didn't like it at all. I forget now why I didn't like it...
Delete...the monsters are crawling out of the woodwork these days.
ReplyDeleteThings won't end as well for us as they did in the movie :(
DeleteWhoops I messed up. I meant to say umbrella academy. Not Locke and key
ReplyDeleteI didn't like season 2 of Umbrella Academy as much as season 1 but am loving season 3!
DeleteI actually have this in my list to watch.
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it. It wasn't at all what I expected, but I loved it.
DeleteI've never heard of this but I also like the two lead actors.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I watched it, and they are brilliant.
DeleteI must not have been in the right frame of mind for such a dark movie at the time. Saw it five years ago because of the actors and was disappointed. Don't remember all that much about it except that his mother was dying and he imagined the monster. Maybe would feel differently about it now, I don't know.
ReplyDeleteIt was new to me, and it certainly is a dark film. I saw hope there, too, though, but at other points in my life I might not have.
