The Great Silence

The Great Silence is a short story by Ted Chiang. You can read it online here. It begins,
The humans use Arecibo to look for extraterrestrial intelligence. Their desire to make a connection is so strong that they’ve created an ear capable of hearing across the universe.

But I and my fellow parrots are right here. Why aren’t they interested in listening to our voices?

*******

The reading challenge I'm involved in calls for science fiction for May.

  3. I like the idea of that reading challenge. I don't know if I could give up my favorites for a whole year though, but to do one a month is a great idea. Not sure about self-help and romance (in the strict sense). Thanks for sharing.

  5. Thanks for the reminder about monthly theme reading. Although I'm thinking that current times are a little too like many science fiction stories!

    1. Ah, there are so many kinds of science fiction. Some will take me quite away from the current horrors.

  6. I like the thought of a reading challenge. Actually, I call my book club my reading challenge because I'm usually never that keen on most of the books to begin with (and usually when I'm done) but sometimes I'm surprised!

    1. I'm often surprised by what I find trying to meet these challenges. True Crime will be a "challenge" for me lol
