The Hoodlum
At 1 hour in length, The Hoodlum -a 1951 crime/noir- is barely long enough to be considered a feature-length film. If you want a taste of film noir without any cost either in time or finances then you can't beat an hour for free. It never ceases to surprise me when these old low-budget films remain shocking.

...and how about those hoodlum at the State Capital in Michigan this week, but Donny says that they are "good people."
ReplyDeleteI swear, those are not protests -I've participated in protests. Those men are packed in the building armed to the teeth. That's an armed occupation. But we know from what happened out in Oregon that if your armed insurrectionists occupying state or federal buildings are _white_ there are no repercussions at all. It's horrifying.
DeleteI couldn't agree more. I live in Lansing and believe me, it is SO NOT THE IMAGE we would like to share of our state with the world. (And it is a minority) But it is a seriously loud minority.
DeleteY'all aren't the only ones. I remember the strong calls for gun control after Black Panthers and other black citizens began carrying guns publicly for their own protection. The hypocrisy is shocking.
DeleteNow your write up sounds intriguing
ReplyDeleteI'm all in for short, free films lol
DeleteI like the sound of this one, thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt was just right for that moment :) Sometimes I run across the right movie at the right time :)
DeleteHmmm. Sounds a bit of a downer according to the review under the video link. Think I will pass as there is enough downer things going on right ow. But hopefully someone will enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't romanticize the life of the hoodlum, that's for sure.
Deletethis does sound intriguing thanks
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it :)
DeleteGoodness. This one may be one I want to see. It sounds TIMELY!
ReplyDeleteI saw a cute poster yesterday. It was supposed to look like Biden's, but read BYEDON. I loved it. I also liked the one about the guy who said if he had to, he would put on all the protective gear possible, then swim through a river of corona virus to get to the polls to vote Trump out. And I admire the guy who wrote if the PO can mail us the Census, why can't they mail us a ballot so we can vote in the general election? Off my tiny soapbox, now!!
"BYEDON" I love it!
DeleteThe arguments against mail-in voting always focus on fraud, which they can provide no evidence of. Voter fraud does exist, but is so rare as to _never_ endanger our elections.
Yes, a very dark movie. Oddly moral, of course, in the end as all the old movies were. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Hayes code demanded it. Some of them tend to be outright preachy. Wouldn't they be shocked by today's films!
DeleteI might check this out. I watched "I Wake Up Screaming" yesterday. Might as well stick to b/w!
ReplyDeleteChecking out "I Wake Up Screaming" ... Victor Mature! I'll be checking that one out. Thx!
