Anarchy and Old Dogs is the 4th book in the Dr. Siri Paiboun mystery series by Colin Cotterill. I've started asking for books from this series as presents. I've enjoyed them all so far.
from the back of the book:
When a blind former dentist is run over by a truck, Dr. Siri Paiboun, the reluctant national coroner of Laos, suspects that this was no traffic accident. A coded message in invisible ink is recovered from the dentist's body, and Dr. Siri begins to follow clues that hint at deep -and dangerous- political intrigue. Dr. Siri only intended to investigate a murder; is he now being drawn into an insurrection? Will he, as a fortune teller predicts, betray his country?Publishers Weekly calls it "delightful" and closes by saying this "always lively mystery is sure to bring the author many new readers." Euro Crime calls it "An entertaining read that is thoroughly recommended." The Historical Novel Society calls it "A lovely read—entertaining, thoughtful and full of style. Recommended." CurledUp has a positive review that concludes, "Colin Cotterill weaves a complex tale of political intrigue, friendship, dreams, and disappointments. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future."

...I love a good mystery!
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting -unusual- series.
DeleteThis series is very entertaining! Valerie
ReplyDeleteYes! I'm glad I came across it.
DeleteI see more novels on tv than I read them these days
ReplyDeleteMe, too. They're cheaper and take less time ;) But I still like having a few book series to follow.
DeleteI loved "The Coroners Lunch" but haven't read the others. You remind me that they are out there and I should find a few to add to the (very tall) pile!
ReplyDeleteThe never-ending book pile is a comfort :)
DeleteNow that's an interesting plot line! Invisible messages left on a body--goodness! :)
ReplyDeleteThe message was recovered on the body in the sense of _from_ the body. Invisible ink on a piece of paper in a pocket, as I recall. A better copy editor would've caught that lol
DeleteI love a good mystery! Thanks for sharing and sending you Happy May wishes 😀. Have a wonderful weekend too and keep well! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteMay Day is a fun holiday :) We need more maypoles :)
DeleteYou've mentioned these before. I have them on my list. Good to hear that you are still enjoying them. happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am still enjoying them. I read the next one in the series before I ask for the one _after_ that, though ;) but so far I always want that next one :)
DeleteNow THIS sounds intriguing. I can see why you are hooked on this series.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite the different kind of read for me :)
DeleteSomehow I thought I left a comment early today before my internet went down. I always love a good mystery and would love to find that series.
ReplyDeleteI guess I just hadn't taken it out of the moderation queue yet. Our local bookseller has some of these on the shelf, but I don't know if libraries usually have them...
