The Hoodlum

At 1 hour in length, The Hoodlum -a 1951 crime/noir- is barely long enough to be considered a feature-length film. If you want a taste of film noir without any cost either in time or finances then you can't beat an hour for free. It never ceases to surprise me when these old low-budget films remain shocking.

Noir of the Week says, "It’s hard to imagine a more bleak, depressing, or unrelenting film than The Hoodlum." TCM has an article.

    1. I swear, those are not protests -I've participated in protests. Those men are packed in the building armed to the teeth. That's an armed occupation. But we know from what happened out in Oregon that if your armed insurrectionists occupying state or federal buildings are _white_ there are no repercussions at all. It's horrifying.

    2. I couldn't agree more. I live in Lansing and believe me, it is SO NOT THE IMAGE we would like to share of our state with the world. (And it is a minority) But it is a seriously loud minority.

    3. Y'all aren't the only ones. I remember the strong calls for gun control after Black Panthers and other black citizens began carrying guns publicly for their own protection. The hypocrisy is shocking.

  4. Hmmm. Sounds a bit of a downer according to the review under the video link. Think I will pass as there is enough downer things going on right ow. But hopefully someone will enjoy it.

    1. It doesn't romanticize the life of the hoodlum, that's for sure.

  6. Goodness. This one may be one I want to see. It sounds TIMELY!

I saw a cute poster yesterday. It was supposed to look like Biden's, but read BYEDON. I loved it. I also liked the one about the guy who said if he had to, he would put on all the protective gear possible, then swim through a river of corona virus to get to the polls to vote Trump out. And I admire the guy who wrote if the PO can mail us the Census, why can't they mail us a ballot so we can vote in the general election? Off my tiny soapbox, now!!

    1. "BYEDON" I love it!

The arguments against mail-in voting always focus on fraud, which they can provide no evidence of. Voter fraud does exist, but is so rare as to _never_ endanger our elections.

  7. Yes, a very dark movie. Oddly moral, of course, in the end as all the old movies were. :)

    1. The Hayes code demanded it. Some of them tend to be outright preachy. Wouldn't they be shocked by today's films!
