A Nest of Vipers is the 21st book in Andrea Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano detective series.
from the back of the book:
Inspector montalbano enjoys simple pleasures, delicious food, walks along the water, the occasional smole -yet these are just the backdrop to his duties as a detective.Kirkus Reviews has a positive review, as does Publishers Weekly. AustCrimeFiction says, "there are reasons to spend time with these books over and above the mystery elements."
His latest case is the killing of the wealthy Cosimo Barletta. Thought to be a widower living out a quiet life by the sea, Cosimo’s sudden death, by gunshot to the neck, opens up his past to scrutiny. What Montalbano uncovers is Cosimo’s trove of salacious photographs, used to extort young women, and a history full of greed and corruption. Montalbano, though resolved to find the killer, muses on where justice lies —in his pursuit of a suspect or with one of Cosimo’s innumerable victims taking their revenge?
I've read the earlier books in the series:
1. The Shape of Water
2. The Terra-Cotta Dog
3. The Snack Thief
4. Voice of the Violin
5. Excursion to Tindari
6. The Smell of Night
7. Rounding the Mark
8. The Patience of the Spider
9. The Paper Moon
10. August Heat
11. The Wings of the Sphinx
12. The Track of Sand
13. The Potter's Field
14. The Age of Doubt
15. Dance of the Seagull
16. Treasure Hunt
17. Angelica's Smile
18. A Game of Mirrors
19. A Beam of Light
20. A Voice in the Night
This sounds like a good read.
ReplyDeleteI have really enjoyed this series. I like that he's still writing them :)
DeleteDid I mention I can't keep up with you between books and movies? :-D
ReplyDeleteBetween books and movies and the caged birds and the patio plants and the bird-watching and the ATCs... let's just say I'd need a bit of warning if someone wanted to come to my house ;)
Deleteand I didn't even mention exercising lol although I often do that while a movie is playing.
DeleteThat's allot of books in the series-sound good though
ReplyDeleteYes! I love the long-running series with characters that develop over time.
DeleteI really MUST find this series. Every time you share one of Camilleri's books, I get excited, but they are not at any of our libraries.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can find that first one somewhere. It's interesting to see what books different library systems stock. I don't even know whether or not our library has these, as The Husband buys them for me as presents.
DeleteIt's a great series of books, always fun to read. Valerie
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed when authors can keep such a long-running series from getting stale.
DeleteOnce I finish all the books in my Louise Penny series I must get back to this series ... I do enjoy all the food descriptions that go along with each story & crime.
ReplyDeleteOh, the food descriptions, yes! Just thinking about them makes me hungry lol
DeleteAnother great storyline! So impressed how many books there are in this series too 😀. Happy reading! Jo x
ReplyDeleteSo many! And he's still writing! Some of them are still waiting for an English translation.
DeleteI only listened to one of these so far, but I really enjoyed it. I, also, can't keep up wiith you--LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteI do love to read lol
DeleteI'm going to check my online library for this one. I know you suggested the series some time ago and I've read several of the books now.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy them and have started checking which ones are available before gift-giving events so I can drop appropriate hints ;)
DeleteWow, you've really made your way through a lot of this series. Ilike the cover art on this book. It is really tempting to read just based on that. I've had this series on my list. One of these days. happy weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI've been reading these for years, ever since I discovered them in a used book store. That makes it so easy to try out unfamiliar authors.
