Cat Soup
Cat Soup is an award-winning 2001 Japanese short film. I can't make heads or tails of it, but it made for interesting viewing.

With a title like Cat Soup who wouldn't love it. As long as the cats don't end up being the soup flavoring, that is (grin).
ReplyDeleteStrangeness, that's what this is, but no eating of cats lol
Deletei wanted to tell you (you don't have to publish this), I got my latest Joann's leaflet today. There were two 50% off coupons for a cut of fabric. Pellon is fabric, so IF you had signed up already, and got your first leaflet in the mail, you could have gotten pellon/wonder under at a great price.
ReplyDeleteI'm publishing this, as who wouldn't want a 50% off coupon heads-up, right? :) Thx!
DeleteThe Young One and I went to see the 2nd Ghiblifest movie, Nausicaa. There was a short before the film, too. There must be a rule that anime shorts must be bizarre.
ReplyDeleteI love most of the anime I've seen, but I've never seen one in a theater. That'd be fun!
DeleteAs with a lot of movies, nothing beats seeing them on a big screen.
DeleteIt must be glorious to see those images on a full-size theater screen. We have them on DVD and some on Blu Ray (which does make a difference), but seeing them in a movie theater would be a different experience :)
DeleteI've saved the link and will watch it at some point. I like weird movies. I saw a weird animated movie on youtube a few weeks ago, and I couldn't quite make heads or tails of it, but it was interesting to watch. :-)
ReplyDeleteFor me, just being interesting to watch is often enough :)
DeleteThere are thing about Japanese culture that are baffling to probably everyone other than the Japanese. I watched some of this and then decided I wasn't Japanese and it wasn't making any sense so I clicked off. But maybe if I had more time I would have watched more because I feel like I was disrespecting another culture's art a little bit. (But not enough to keep it on)
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's disrespectful to have preferences. There are movies that just won't strike us, and there are so _many_ movies! I just move on to another one. We can't watch 'em all.
DeleteThis is not my cup of coffee! Have a great day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteYeah, definitely strange this one was lol
DeleteBizarre! Made no sense to me at all. I kept wondering the entire time how it won awards, but maybe it's a cultural thing? Violent and kind of depressing, too. I don't know how you'd describe it to anyone--LOL!
ReplyDeleteI just took in the visual experience. Sometimes it's enough for me to just watch the images. It is indescribable, I agree lol
DeleteVery surreal but mesmerising none the less 😊. Thanks for sharing and I hope you've had a lovely week! Jo x
ReplyDelete"Mesmerizing" is the perfect word. Fascinating to watch, even though discerning a plot was something I couldn't do lol
