The Quiet Hour

The Quiet Hour:

is a 1913 painting by Albert Chevallier Tayler, who was born on April 5, 1862, and died on December 20, 1925. This painting brings together the table setting with a cup of something hot, fresh flowers, and a woman reading, which adds up to such a pleasant domestic scene. I'm drawn in. I think I'd like to sit there.

You can see more of his work online at The Athenaeum.

I'll share my own quiet hour featuring our Christmas tree:

Oh, and by the way... If you have any fond memories of the original trilogy and you haven't seen the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie yet, get out there! Tonight! And see it before some pagan spoils it for you. I saw it yesterday afternoon and can't praise it highly enough.

Bleubeard and Elizabeth host a lovely gathering every week at the Altered Book blog. Please join us, and share a drink.

  1. What a delightful painting. I was most impressed when I clicked for a larger photo. I think that looks like one of those old time coffee pots that were similar to tea pots, but taller and not as squat.

I really enjoyed your tree, and loved how you put your stuffed tree on the floor. You obviously don't have cats who would play with the bows. But I have three of those stuffed trees (although I only put one out this year), one of which has no bows or ornaments. I might find a cozy spot on the floor for it next year. I have no special attachment to it, thus I didn't bother finding a spot for it this year, but next year, I might let the cats play with it at will. Thanks for putting the idea in my head.

Thanks for sharing this lovely painting and your beautiful home with us for T this Tuesday. I loved the bookcase.

Although I will be back before then, I'll still wish you and your family a beautiful and merry Christmas. I hope it is just what you are hoping for.

    1. We are currently without uncaged pets, so the floor is a safe place to decorate. We've had years where that wasn't the case lol. Marie Kondo is helping me pare down the numbers of books, but still we seem to have plenty. Thank you for the Christmas wishes. I hope you are blessed with the peace and joy we hope for our own celebration :)

  7. Having been an art major in school I LOVE the older masters and the scenes they painted. I used to know who painted what, but it was al so long ago that really enjoy when you bring one into the spotlight. Yes I would sit there and read too, as well as in that welcoming chair, near the books in your photo!

Thank you for visiting and for leaving me a comment this week.
    Merry Christmas my friend!!!

  9. That´s a wonderful painting; I put it on my desktop, so I can see it every day. So peaceful and calm... So, you liked the new Star Wars, did you? I´ll make sure we go see it during the "inbetweendays", as we call the week from Christmas to New Year. I need a break from studying, I think... Merry Christmas & Happy T-Day! :-)

    1. I enjoyed the movie, yes. Such a relief after the horror of the prequels. Now once you've seen it you can explain the science behind the big Empire weapon ;) coz boy has it got me curious about how it works.

  11. Thank for sharing that painting. It certainly looks very inviting. Reading on a dark winter afternoon with a tray of tea or coffee being brought in. Bliss. Do you think she has the fire on as well? It could be you know....
Also thank you for commenting earlier,
Have a lovely christmas and a happy T day of course,

I haven't heard any details or spoilers but I have sure heard a lot of thumbs ups. I might have to see if I can go to an actual theater and watch this one.
Happy T-Day and Merry Christmas! :)
