West Side Story is a 1961 Robert Wise/Jerome Robbins musical film, one of the greatest musical films of all time and perhaps the best. I have the DVD but watched it on HBO Max this time. If you haven't seen this it it definitely a must see. And not just for the music but also for the plot.

...a classic.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely!
DeleteI'm not a fan of musicals. I had to watch it to do a compare and contrast to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. (I think everyone had to do that assignment)
ReplyDeleteThis one is a real treasure, I think. A tragic story.
DeleteThis is a classic, isn't it? Have you seen the newer version. I liked it but something about the more muted colors of the older version gives it a more street feel. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteI don't plan on seeing the new one, though I've heard from people who liked it.
DeleteThe classic. I liked the new one well enough -- some scenes more, others much less. But there's something about the original. It just holds up.
ReplyDeleteI wish people would quit remaking the old classics and come up with new ideas.
DeleteAs near to universal appeal as you're likely to find.
ReplyDeleteIt has maintained its popularity through the years.
DeleteI've never seen it, but I have definitely heard it compared to Romeo and Juliet.
ReplyDeleteIt's a tragic story.
DeleteIt is a classic!
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is!
