Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is a 2022 fantasy film, the latest in the Harry Potter series. It's fine, but unless you're a big Harry Potter fan I suggest you choose something else. I watched it on HBO Max.

trailer:

It didn't fare well with professional reviewers.

    1. I liked the books and to a lesser degree the movies. Mindless fun. This movie is not their best addition.

  2. Himself was watching it this morning. I'm not a big HP fan

    1. I've usually liked them, but this one just wasn't as good. My husband liked this one more than I did, but he's a bigger HP fan. I hope Himself enjoyed it.

  3. Our kids in Ottawa adore this franchise! I've watched the odd one with them.

    1. We discovered the books when they first came out when the kids were young, and I feel like we grew up with them. Especially since my daughter and husband are particularly huge fans.

  4. You would think that these would be my type of movies. However, over the years as much as I have tried I just can't get into them.

  5. I'm a Harry Potter fan, but haven't watched this yet. I did hear the reviews were not good, so I'm in no hurry.

    1. I wish they'd quit trying to do backstories on the main characters in the original films. They just never feel quite right to me.

  6. This is my FIFTH time trying to publish my comment. Each time I get a "failed to publish" notification.

I've never seen a HP film OR read one of the books. I may have missed out on something very special! Or not!

    1. You're my hero! I appreciate you making the continued attempt. I discovered the books because my kids were that age. I might never've read them otherwise.

  7. I had a problem getting into this film. It was OK, but certainly not as good as the actual Harry Potter films.

    1. That's exactly how I felt. This one's just not up to snuff.

  8. I'll watch it. Have seen the other two--because of Eddie Redmayne! Just really like him. :)

  9. we like all of them, even this one! I don’t take much of the stuff seriously, I just think it’s good fun. I don’t like all the hysteria about J.K.Rowling, either. I disagree with some things she said. I disagree with lots of authors, and read their books with caution, and quote them with discretion. But I read them. And I don’t really find much need to quote JKR anyway.

    1. The objection I have to Rowling is her insistence on interpreting the characters for us, as if her writing had been unclear, we'd gotten it wrong, and she needs to tell us what we've read. Patronizing. Her other views may be offensive to me, but they don't interfere with my enjoyment of the world she created.
