Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancing is a 1987 drama film. Abortion plays a central part in the plot. Want to go back to the days of back alley abortions? Here's what it looked like, and it's not pretty. "The guy had a dirty knife and a folding table. I could hear her screaming in the hallway." God, help us. Baby is pretty, though, and those dance scenes are wonderful! It's on HBO Max.

  2. I don't think I've seen this movie all the way through. Just bits and pieces. Now, I'll have to watch the movie

  3. It's a good film and so true. I remember my grandmother talking to me about abortions and women she knew back in the 1920's. Aren't we supposed to embrace freedom and not believe our ideas are the only ones worth having (for everyone else)? happy Monday. Hugs-Erika

    1. Not if we are among the Righteous who know the only way is Our way. Those people want to force their way on the rest of us.

  4. NObody puts Baby in a corner! That's a pretty good one. It would be interesting to see how well it holds up.

  6. I think I maybe was too young to understand! If they show the movie again, I´ll take better care...

    1. I remember when Roe v Wade passed. Slowly the world become a little less oppressive.

  7. I definitely remember when abortions weren't legal and when contraception was very difficult to get. If you even asked for the pill the doctors and nurses treated you like a whore. Crazy that they want to bring us back there! Will a woman have to have a father's or husband's signature to even get a charge card and won't be allowed to have her name on a house or car or any property of value? I remember those days. Will they take away the vote? That wasn't in the constitution. How far back do they want to take us? Will men own slaves again? So creepy and scary!!

    1. If we could've gotten the Equal Rights Amendment passed it might've made a difference, but this has been an ongoing campaign to install anti-abortion judges for decades. They want to control women and impose their religion on us. Depressing :(

  8. I LOVED this. They show it on cable ever so often. I'm a HUGE fan of Jerry Orbach and I miss him so much. I cried in this film, mainly over the way the girl almost died from that abortion. I promise, I will NOT elaborate or start a diatribe. You KNOW how I feel about this mess.

    2. You asked for it! We (those of us who are not anti-abortion) need to stop talking abortion and start talking choice. It encompasses more, like birth control, interracial marriage, LGBTQ, AND abortion. We also need to be sure friends and family get out and vote in both the primary and general elections. It's the only and best way to get our message across.

    3. I'm hearing them argue against birth control! And their views on LGBTQ isn't even worth discussing :( I've voted for decades, and things are _worse_. Ya gotta hand it to the hard right religious conservatives :( They had a successful decades-long campaign to fill the courts with exactly the kind of judges they wanted. Makes me wanna cry :( But yes, I favor pro-choice language as more accurate, but it's not reaching the pro-forced-birth folks I know.

    4. I somehow doubt you will EVER move the pro-forced-birth crowd. It is like trying to change Moscow Mitch's mind. After all, he is the one responsible for at least TWO of those SCOTUS picks.

    5. The organized and concerted decades-long campaign to seat judges at all levels who won't support women's rights has been successful beyond our understanding. We'll never recover from it, because many of the judges hold lifetime appointments and are young. I'd appreciate it if they would quit trying to force us all into following their religion, but they are gleefully bearing down. I have lost hope.

  9. This was a great film. Let's hope that some people will see the light and cancel those awful laws which are so fatal for all women.. Valerie

    1. They think they've seen the light. They know the One True Way and need to force us all into it. Sad, really.
